Memorial Day parades and ceremonies planned at Frankfort and New Lenox
Frankfort will hold a two part Memorial Day program with a morning parade from the school to the village hall, wreath laying at the memorial, grave decorations, a cannon salute, and a park dedication by the S P C led by Mrs. Irving Rudman. After, park events include colors, anthem, talks, doughnuts and multiple games. New Lenox begins with a 10 30 parade including ROTC and high school bands, graves decorated, firing squad and Taps.

Beginning tonight May 23 a series of meetings will be held in the homes of Mokena Methodists to raise 45000 for land purchase a new parsonage and church. Berle Needham serves as general chairman.

Spectacular party planned by Mokena seventh graders
The seventh grade at Carpenter Street School will entertain the eighth grade with a party titled The Spectacular on Friday May 24 in the school gym from 7 to 10 p.m. The event features readings by eighth graders, remarks by Supt. James Ennis and teachers, and dancing to Cliff Tones after refreshments.

Fiesta Queen contest deadline set for June one
The Mokena Fiesta Days queen contest opens to unmarried girls 16 to 21 in the village. Tickets sell 25 cents each or five for a dollar with votes cast accordingly. The winner receives wardrobe prizes and runners-up prizes along with additional public prizes like a TV console and a portable stereo. Applications due by 8 p.m. June 1 at Ryder's Sinclair station. Fiesta Days ends July 4 with a parade to Mokena Community Park and a fireworks display. Proceeds fund community projects by the Chamber of Commerce.

Nine workers injured as giant antenna collapses at Andrew Corp plant
At the Andrew Corporation plant in Orland Park a 60 foot antenna test failed when the outer rim collapsed under a 157000 pound load simulating 175 mph hurricane winds. Nine workers were hurt. four were held for observation. Police and fire units aided, with several treated and released.

Four new teachers added to Lincoln Way High staff
Lincoln Way High School filled vacancies with four hires: Stephen Ivens and James Pickerill in math, Danny James in business education, and Marjorie Holmes in English. Ivens comes from Normal IL and will graduate from Illinois State Normal University. Pickerill is a Eastern Illinois University graduate with three years at Lawrenceville High. Holmes, from Joliet, has taught at Lake Park and Colorado Springs High Schools and will join English next year. James, a Charleston native and Eastern Illinois graduate, will join business education after Kathryn Bourdage resigns. he is finishing a master's at EIU and will relocate after summer school.
