Plans for Mokena Fourth of July Picnic Open
The annual Mokena Fourth of July picnic will feature a parade ending at Mokena Community Park with booths games and entertainment through the afternoon and evening. A fireworks display caps the program. Rev Robert Watson of the Lions Club chairs the event with George Helgersen the Chamber of Commerce co chair. Lions members Art Omland Bernard Lankenau Norval Robinson and Chamber members William Michener Kenneth Millar Walter Welsch are on the planning committee.

Massed Grade Band and Chorus Concert Planned
Lincoln Way area music departments present their first band and chorus festival in the high school gym this Sunday afternoon May 24 at 2 o'clock. The massed band will have 130 pieces and the chorus 150 voices with participants from Arbury Hills Frankfort Manhattan Mokena and New Lenox. The concert is free and open to the public.

Dedication of the Lincoln Way High School addition is set for Sunday May 24 at 3 pm in the auditorium. Dr Robert Andree will speak with Verne Cracker representing Will County schools. The project includes a science lab large library and a girls gym with a roller skating floor plus new lecture rooms seminar rooms and a bus maintenance garage.

Annual Fire Dept Dance and School Bond Details
The Mokena fire department plans its annual dance at VFW hall on Wolf Road this Saturday May 23 with tickets at 1.50 per person or 3 for a family. The event features the Marvin Kollman Orchestra and offers flowers to first 50 women. Also noted are park district summer recreation plans from June 15 to August 7 led by Gayle Harling, and a bond issue of 750,000 for a school addition with construction costing 694,140 plus 50,860 for furniture and 5,000 for landscaping. The school district reports 22,611.11 in surplus from invested bond money.

Annexation Extends Village Reach In Mokena
The village of Mokena annexed Oldman Park and Grey Real Estate properties on Wolf road and adjacent area at a May 13 special meeting. A Standard Oil site on Wolf and LaPorte is set for future annexation with a $1,500 village sewer contribution toward a $4,000 project. The village expects about $5,000 yearly sales tax from the Oldman store and will collect a $100 tap fee from Grey Real Estate. Plans include later water mains, zoning decisions, and a zoning board of appeals appointment list.
