William Martin Post of the VFW will again head the Memorial Day parade in Mokena with E. D. Friant in charge. Groups are asked to contact him to join the procession. Memorial Day falls on Monday this year and salutes will honor veterans buried in local cemeteries.
The Mokena Park district bids 1500 for the old Immanuel Lutheran Church as headquarters and recreation center, with a condition for a title insurance policy and potential additional costs if a good title is not furnished. The church cannot supply title since it does not own the land. ownership lies with land set aside for park and church use. The minutes note arrangements for Little League refreshments at Community Park and a small 8 by 10 foot stand, with Carol Lauffer hired to supervise playground activities this summer for 400 dollars and Sarah Sipple to assist.
May 9 brought unseasonal snow to Northern Illinois, a rarity though frost is common in May. The temperature hovered near freezing Monday and Tuesday mornings, contrasting with heavier May snowfalls seen in the past.
Lincoln Way High students participate in a unique driver education program. The school parking lot is an auto driving range with stop signs parking slots and steering obstacles. Three cars with speed governors are used simultaneously on the range.
The Frankfort Lions Club marks its 25th anniversary with a May 17 gathering at Gleneagles Country Club Le mont. Claude M DeVorss Wichita Kan will speak as Lions International former president with district officials in attendance.
