Engineers expect summer blacktopping on a Joliet corridor from Mokena to New Lenox via Tinley Park with Maple road Marley west from Wolf road to Marley and Francis road as state aid projects awaiting full right of way. Science Exhibit Sandburg Hosts SW School Winners
The Southwest Suburban Conference showcases top science projects with Dr. Hubert Alyea of Princeton University as the highlight. About 100 students attend the symposium in the boys gym auditorium while 70 projects are displayed in the girls gym until 9 pm. The state science meeting follows on May 8 and 9 at Sandburg, after the district winners were awarded 1st place in the Illinois Junior Academy of Science.

Evelyn Manning former Orland resident dies in California
Funeral services were held in Orland Park for Evelyn Manning who died May 1 in a Whittier California rest home after a lingering illness. She was born January 17, 1908 in Bruce Wisconsin and lived in Chicago before moving to Orland Park in 1921. She married Edward Manning on June 3, 1926 and survived by four sons, eight grandchildren, and a sister.

The New Lenox PTA will run a bicycle safety program offering registration inspection and testing. Local officials including Chief George Kennedy and Officer Joseph Wachett join a committee with teachers and Father Dennis Hall. Testing begins May 7 at Oak View School yard with about 800 children expected to participate. Licenses and permits will be issued at a closing ceremony by May 15.
