Death Takes Life Resident of Orland Park
Christian Yonker age 88 died Sunday morning March 26 at his home in Orland Park after a week in Wabash hospital. He was born November 5, 1872 and lived in Orland township all his life. A former farmer, he worked 43 years as a crane operator for the Wabash railroad, retiring 25 years ago. Surviving are three sons Walter Milton Clarence three daughters Olga Uthe Lillian Hoff man and Clara Robinson one sister Helen Scheer of Peotone and one brother Fred Yunker 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held March 29 at Schmadeke Funeral Home and Methodist church with Rev. Robert Plastow officiating. Interment at Orland Memorial Park cemetery.

Convict On Rampage Injures Guard At Stateville Prison
Lt Frank Beere 26 of 712 Cedar Rd New Lenox suffered minor facial and neck injuries in a scuffle with inmate Lawrence Hall 24 at Stateville prison. Beere treated at the prison hospital and returned to duty. Hall, held since Nov 10 last year for robbery from Cook County, faced psychological evaluation before punishment.

Train and Bakery Truck Clash Near Mokena
A passenger train and a loaded bakery truck collided at the Hamilton Road crossing west of Mokena. The truck was demolished but driver Rudolph Colognesi of Joliet escaped serious injury. Bakery goods littered the right of way for blocks as police removed him to Silver Cross hospital. The vehicle belonged to Colognesi and was operated for the Peter Wheat company.

Easter Egg Hunts Set for Frankfort and Mokena
Two Easter egg hunts are planned this weekend with details for Frankfort on Saturday April 1 and Mokena on Easter Sunday afternoon. The Frankfort event, by the Legion Auxiliary, runs 10 30 a m for pre school through sixth grade with separate gathering spots and golden egg prizes. In case of bad weather the hunt moves to Monday at the same time and place. The Mokena Lions Club hosts a third hunt at the community park for pre school through fifth grade with cash for lucky eggs and a rain plan Monday at 3 30 pm. Lions urge donations of a dozen colored eggs to Richardson s market by Saturday.

Winds Top 100 MPH Breaks Anemometer Across Region
Strong winds Tuesday swept the area with gusts near 100 miles per hour damaging roofs outbuildings and power lines. Public Service crews worked through the afternoon and night to restore lines at Joliet airport four miles west of town where the wind gusts toppled the anemometer cups. Dust filled the air creating a yellow haze as trees branches and even whole trees fell. No dollar loss figure was available yet.
