Mokena Board Names Peoria Man Superintendent
James R. Ennis is appointed Mokena public schools superintendent effective July 1, succeeding Elizabeth K. Cappel who retires after 33 years. Ennis, from East Peoria, has led River View district No. 2 for two years and previously taught science and mathematics in Pekin. He holds a B S from Bradley and an M Ed from Illinois, plus NSF Brown University summer study. He and his wife with three children will move to Mokena this summer.

Albert C. Cappel 71 a lifelong Mokena resident and retired grain dealer died suddenly at his home March 20. He and brother Fred ran Mokena Green and Feed Co. from 1929 to 1950. Survived by wife Elizabeth three sons Wesley Harold Marvin a sister Ida Mancke a brother Andrew and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were held March 23 at St John’s United Church of Christ Mokena with Masonic rites and burial in the church cemetery.

Schmuhl School District 121 proposes increasing the educational fund tax rate from 92 cents to $1.13 per $100 of assessed value.
