Two Tickets Field For New Lenox Town Election

New Lenox voters February election will feature two ballots. The Town ticket includes incumbent supervisor John E. Francis and highways official Willard Hafka along with two library trustees seeking re election Ronald Whitaker and Dr A D Miller. The Progressive Citizens party nominates John A Brent for supervisor and James C Skiniotes for highway commissioner with a full slate for library terms led by John R Knauer Kenneth Sak and four year term candidate George H Ruhle. Polling locations span four precincts.

Roberta Lang Wins State DAR Essay Contest

Roberta Lang a seventh grade pupil from Mokena at Carpenter Street School won the Des Plaines Valley DAR and Mokena Book Club state essay contest for seventh graders. Her victory makes her eligible for the national DAR contest and she receives a history book as prize.

N. Lenox Lions St Patrick Dance March 16

The New Lenox Lions club hosts its seventh annual St Patrick's dance and buffet dinner at D'Amico's 214 club in Joliet on Saturday March 16. Music by Bill Carneghi orchestra from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Proceeds fund a recreational center for children behind the Lions Den. a 1963 Cadillac will be awarded as a prize.

Frankfort Grade School Boosts Pay Scale at March Board Meeting

Frankfort grade school board approved a revised teachers salary schedule effective September 1963 to meet a new base of 4900. Beginning teachers will move onto a two step scale, with partial payment in 1963 and balance in 1964. The action follows Lincoln Way area trends to retain staff. A report on joint transportation for special education with Mokena was discussed along with possible district reorganizations involving districts 154 and 157C.

Mrs Eleanor Stone dies after long illness in Chicago

Mrs Eleanor Stone 45 of 318 Haven Ave New Lenox died March 7 at Billings Memorial Hospital Chicago after a lingering illness. A Manila Philippines native who came to the US in 1945 she lived in Chicago before moving to New Lenox in 1958. Surviving husband Walter E three daughters Joan Georgia Garyle one son Wayne mother Maria A Fons brothers George Walter James sister Connie Gabel. Funeral from Baskerville chapel New Lenox to Grace Episcopal church Rev Richard Crist officiated burial Maplewood cemetery.

Orland Center School Addition Bids Opened at Board Meeting

Bids for the addition to Orland Center school will be opened at the regular Orland Park grade school board meeting at 8 p.m. on March 27. Drawings and specifications available from the architectural firm Alexander Borkon Westphal and DeYoung at North Ottawa Street Joliet.

Will Co Aux Police Hold Annual Dinner

The Will County Auxiliary Police held their second annual banquet at Arch Inn on Saturday March 2. Ten members and their wives attended with Sheriff and Mrs. Joseph Trizna Chief Deputy and Mrs. Frank Skul and Deputy and Mrs. John Shelly of Joliet as special guests. A chicken or steak dinner was served. The next meeting will be in Joliet at the sheriff's administration building conference room on Sunday March 24 at 7 p.m. All members in uniform are asked to attend. Sheriff Trizna and Chief Deputy Skul will be present.

Frankfort Fire District to Build New Engine House Bond Issue Planned

The Frankfort fire protection district seeks a $130000 bond to buy land and construct an engine house. Trustees Lambrecht Scgeer and Swatek optioned a 130 by 830 foot site on Nebraska street with underpasses on US 45 to improve movement and meet future needs. Architect plans show a 68 by 70 foot building with space for six pieces of equipment, hose tower, offices, a 48 by 68 foot second floor meeting room, and potential dormitory use for paid firefighters.

The Mokena village board weighs extending water mains, adding a chlorinator and master meter at the well at an estimated 52000 cost, with revenue bonds discussed. Toll Authority Pushes for FAI 80 Toll Road Tie In

Will and parts of Cook County residents face pressure on Springfield to resolve a deadlock over tolls on a planned FAI-80 segment. The Illinois toll commission seeks toll rights on a mile and a half between Hazel Crest and the Indiana line, despite funding from state and federal sources. Government officials say no funds can be spent for toll road construction, risking delays into 1972.
