Roof Water Blamed for Backing Up Orland Park Sewers
Village Engineer Mark Lovejoy told the Monday night village board meeting that roof water overloads sanitary sewers, causing basements to flood during heavy rains. He noted 550,000 gallons per day reached the disposal plant, well above normal, with 18 inch lines at capacity. The plan includes extending lines from Orland Center School and assessing costs to the school district and landowners, plus traffic speed signs in Fairways Estates.

Two 17 year olds Bob Fitzer and Richard Smithson walked 40 miles to Comiskey Park on a Sunday, aiming to see a White Sox and Red Sox double header. The trip began at 2 AM and took about 12 hours before the second game was rained out.

New Lenox Lions Festival Planned for Friday and Saturday
The New Lenox Lions Club festival will run Friday and Saturday nights July 26 and 27 at the Den grounds on South Cedar Road with a Sunday rain date. Mokena Man Hits Train At Francis Road Crossing
Donald Proper, 25, of west Mokena, was hospitalized after his car collided with a southbound freight train on the Wabash crossing about 7:35 am. The car was pushed 50 feet along the right of way and rolled into a cornfield east of the tracks. Flashers at Francis road crossing were noted as needed due to vegetation masking approaching trains. State Trooper Richard Werner investigated.
