Margaret O'Brien Retires as Mokena Postmaster
Margaret O'Brien, longtime Mokena postmaster of 11134 First St, retires after 33 years. Leonard Decker, former Illinois State Police member and Ford security man, sworn in as acting postmaster January 12. Decker brings prior postal experience and a large family, replacing a growing office that serves about 6,000 people with seven employees.

Lincoln-Way Edges Sandburg In Narrow Conference Thriller
Lincoln-Way Knights rallied from 13 down at halftime to beat Sandburg 66 to 65 in a SWS conference matchup. Rick Kohlbacher led Lincoln-Way with 22 points while Brian Taber paced Sandburg with 16. Sandburg owned an 18-14 first quarter and 44-31 halftime lead before Lincoln-Way surged, then clinched in the final minute.

Frankfort Schools Approve New Teacher Pay Schedule
The Frankfort school board approved a revised salary schedule with bachelor holders starting at 6200 and those with a master at 6700. Maximums rise to 8900 after 12 years for bachelors and 10400 after 16 years with a master. Beginning 1968 69 the district adds a half time administrative assistant at Chelsea School and a half time librarian. The board also discussed Willowcrest traffic and parking improvements and possible land purchase. bids on bus sales were invited with a January 24 deadline.

I 80 opens to traffic with ceremonies and plans
The transcontinental I-80 from Harlem Ave to Joliet is now open to traffic after completion of the Hazel Crest to Joliet 29 mile segment.
