Mokena School Chief Announces June Retirement
After 33 years in the Mokena grade school system, Elizabeth K. Cappel, superintendent, will retire June 30. She served 18 years as principal or superintendent and helped grow the district from 131 students to 421. The board seeks qualified applicants and has set qualification standards with the Illinois Association of School Boards and County Superintendent Verne Cracker. Amvet Auxiliary Plans Christmas Giving Projects
The Amvet Auxiliary of Post 183 outlined this year's charity efforts at its last meeting. They will donate handkerchiefs to the Veterans Hospital in Dwight, provide cash to Guardian Angels Home in Joliet, and supply crayons coloring books and small items to Trinity School for Retarded Children in Mokena and in Arrbury Hills. L W Musician Wins Place On All State Band
Charles Chuck Ball senior from Lincoln Way earned first chair as baritone section leader in the senior all state band directed by Weston Noble at Luther College. The 225 students from 225 high schools practiced three days at the University of Illinois with a final concert on Saturday. A select group from the band may perform at the Conrad Hilton in Chicago next year depending on auditions.
