Lincoln Way High School bond voters approve 750000 expansion
Lincoln Way high school district voters approved a 750000 building bond on a December referendum after three attempts this year. Final tally 1451 for and 1259 against with 192 vote margin. Expansion plans call for 25 classrooms three large PE rooms admin guidance and health facilities and a bus maintenance garage. PTG leaders praised turnout and support to meet growing enrollment projected above 1100 next fall.

Fine Conductor Fined For Blocking Mokena Crossing
Herbert Lyles of Blue Island and a Rock Island freight conductor was fined five dollars for holding the Schoolhouse road crossing for 25 minutes. Police Chief Vernon Bormet cited complaints and Lyles appeared before Judge James Surovich, who suspended a fifteen dollar fine and placed him on sixty days probation. If he blocks the crossing again he faces the old fine plus a new one.

Coaches drew tournament pairings for the Lincoln Way Holiday Basketball event. The event runs December 26 to 28 with two Thursday and Wednesday afternoons, two nights of games and two Friday night finales to crown the top four. Reddick opens at 1 30 pm Wednesday against Beecher followed by Manteno versus Lemont at 3 pm Thornton Fractional South versus Plainfield at 7 pm and Lincoln Way against Momence at 8 30 pm. Thursday features two 1 30 and 3 pm games with winners advancing to the night contest and Friday hosts a winners bracket final at 8 pm.
