Doede and wife convert 60 acres in Homer township to a Christmas tree plantation. They prune with hedge trimmers, plant 8 000 trees a day with a mechanical planter, and plan to expand by 35 more acres. The New Lenox post office will stay open until 5 PM this Saturday December 16 to handle Christmas mail and packages. Regular Saturday window hours end at 1 PM. Postmaster Lester Brown says the window will be open Sunday from 1 to 4 PM with city delivery but no rural deliveries on that day.
