Santa Claus To Distribute Candy Canes In Mokena Visit

Santa Claus plans a personal appearance in Mokena on Saturday December 16. He will tour the village streets in a convertible and hand out candy canes to local children. He prefers a convertible to a sedan for ease of distribution during the visit.

Public Invites Yuletide PTA Program “Christmas in Many Lands”

Mo kena PTA invites the public to a December 19 yuletide program at Carpenter Street School starting 7 30 p m. The band and chorus directed by Perry Friedman and Mrs Clark perform customs and carols from England France Sweden Italy Germany Mexico Spain and the United States Santa Claus will also appear There is no business meeting and New Lenox Lumber Co supplied the community tree with the Association of Commerce decorating parts of the program.

Doede couple grow premium Christmas trees in Illinois

Doede and wife convert 60 acres in Homer township to a Christmas tree plantation. They prune with hedge trimmers, plant 8 000 trees a day with a mechanical planter, and plan to expand by 35 more acres. Doede is Illinois Christmas Tree Growers Association director guiding a 150 member group with 138 000 trees for sale this Christmas.

New Lenox Bank Expands To Meet Growing Needs Of Area

The New Lenox State Bank opens a new addition doubling its size as assets rise from 27 000 to 365 000 with current deposits around 3 300 000. The expansion adds six teller stations two vaults two drive in windows a night depository and remodeled offices for directors and staff.

Arbury Hills Residents Seek ICC Hearing on Water Rates

A petition was filed with the Illinois Commerce Commission for an immediate hearing on prospective water rates if Avebury Utilities Co is bought by Citizens Utilities. The Arbury Hills Civic Association retained attorney Robert Hultquist, funded by a door to door subscription of $1 per family.

New Lenox Post Office Adapts Yule Schedule

The New Lenox post office will stay open until 5 PM this Saturday December 16 to handle Christmas mail and packages. Regular Saturday window hours end at 1 PM. Postmaster Lester Brown says the window will be open Sunday from 1 to 4 PM with city delivery but no rural deliveries on that day.

Christmas Vespers Concert At Lincoln Way High

Lin coln e Way high school's music department presents its annual Christmas Vespers Sunday at 3 in the school auditorium. Admission is free with seating first come, first served. The program features the band led by Robert C. Taylor and diverse choral numbers including The Adoration of the Magi, four carols, excerpts from Handel Messiah, and a joint Hallelujah Chorus finale.

Funeral services were held for Harry A. Ittersagen 72 of 120 Ash St New Lenox at Baskerville chapel with Rev Alfred H Hunter presiding Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chicago He died Friday December 8 at Silver Cross Hospital after a period of ill health A pattern maker at Calume t Pattern Works for 33 years he moved to New Lenox in 1956 and retired in 1958 Surviving wife Clara a son John three grandchildren and two sisters plus several relatives He was a member of the New Lenox Methodist church Olympia Lodge 864 AFAM of Chicago and was preceded in death by a son two sisters and three brothers.
