The Weitendorf public schools will rent textbooks and workbooks this year at about one third price with a nine grade level fee scale. Fees range from 6.70 to 9.00 dollars and parents pay during Sept 4 to 7 at the Wolf and Laraway Roads school building.
Miss Frieda Borms, 74, on Walnut Street, Frankfort, was bound and gagged when a man entered by the back door Wednesday night. He demanded money, searched a paper box, but fled when police car passed. The suspect, in his late twenties, about 5 feet 5 inches, 135 pounds with dark hair, left her unharmed aside from shock.
The Will County Board of Review will halt public hearings on September 8 under Chairman Edward Liberty. Requests to lower valuations on real estate or personal property are heard until September 8 with no hearings after September 10 through December 8. The board will then inspect properties before finalizing assessments for tax extension.
Fay Grogan of 716 Ogden Road New Lenox was ejected from her car when it rolled over in a field after leaving the road around 1 30 a m. Investigators place the accident seven and a half miles east of New Lenox near the Buss motel. She was treated at Silver Cross hospital after being found barefoot and unconscious for over an hour.
Lawrence Hunt 20 of New Lenox died from injuries after a two car crash on U S 30 near Kildare avenue Matteson. Jerry Kovar 32 of Flossmoor was seriously injured and survived. Hunt employed by Rock Island railroad, engaged to Lila McMahon, coroner's jury to Sept 20.
Three new teachers join the Frankfort grade faculty for the upcoming open. Mrs. Joan Keener will teach kindergarten with three years of experience. Miss Joan Noble will teach vocal music two days weekly with degrees in music education. James Bryant, a Western Illinois graduate, will teach 8th grade and coach basketball and volleyball and supervise physical education. Several returning teachers are listed, with a staff workshop set for September 4 and pupil registration and first full day planned for September 5.
Four Mallo children were in a driverless car that rolled from a parked incline at a fruit stand on 141st Street and U S 45 in Orland Park. Raymond Mallo, 4, was seriously injured but recovering at Little Company of Mary hospital after being ejected when the car struck the Heisman car and bounced over a curb. Police noted the emergency brake was not set and the car was in neutral. All siblings escaped unharmed and said they did not touch the brake or shift lever.
New Lenox volunteer firefighters sponsor the annual dance at Oakview school gym on Sept. 29 from 8 30 until late. Joel Berrys orchestra will provide music. Four canvassing teams will cover the New Lenox fire district regions south west northwest northeast and southeast along Route 30 and Cedar road to raise funds for the year.
The University of Illinois experiment field at Elwood will host an open house on September 14. Will county farm adviser A A Wicklein notes demonstrations use zinc boron and 1281212 fertilizer on corn. Varieties include dwarf tassel seeded purple plant corn and Tama Flint along with grain and silage sorghums and a soybean plot with 12 varieties.
The Mokena grade school band will greet U S Senator Dirksen with a musical salute at Mokena Community Park at 10 a m on September 10 a Monday. Local Republican groups organize a 12 noon Joliet luncheon with tickets 2 dollars and tickets available through multiple area subscribers. The visit may be canceled if Senate business keeps Dirksen in Washington.
