Fred Warning prominent Frankfort resident dies at 98
Fred Warning age 98 of Frankfort died August 17 at LeSan Nursing Home Joliet after three months as patient. Born in Germany March 17 1871 he came to the U S at age 11 and lived in Frankfort since 1911 working years in farming and helping found Frankfort State Bank opened 1913 where he served as vice president. He is survived by son Raymond brother George three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery Frankfort. Funeral services were held August 20 at 2 p.m. with Rev James Parker officiating. Memorial services by Joliet Lodge No 42 A F and A M were held prior.

Farmhouse Fire Destroys Hollstein Property Near Frankfort
An empty house on Milton Hollstein's farm about two miles south of Frankfort burned completely around 4 30 Sunday morning. The origin of the blaze was not determined as firefighters arrived too late to save the structure.

A two car collision at Gougar road and U S 6 left Beulah McDowell dead and six others injured. Edward Bromberek 27 received a ticket for failure to yield. The Castleman family, including Peggy 22 and four children, survived with injuries. Mark 10 weeks slept through the crash.

Two Midnight Alarms Bring Mokena Firemen
Mokena volunteer firefighters battled two overnight alarms. A shed and contents valued at 1000 dollars burned at the A P Belanger residence on Francis Road. Nearby, the Jesse Anderson home at 173rd and 108th near Alpine suffered smoke from a blown transformer in a radio set. Firemen arrived late Thursday night and again around midnight Friday to find the shed fire largely beyond repair. Belanger insured the loss.

Italian student begins year at Lincoln Way High
Edoardo Campi a 17 year old from Milan arrives in Mokena Illinois for a year exchange program at Lincoln Way High School. He traveled 12 days covering 4000 miles by sea and 1000 by land arriving hungry for a hamburger and milk. He will live on the Yonker farm and pursue electronics while in the United States.

Cutting Horse Show All-Day Western Event in Mokena
The Northern Illinois Cutting Horse Association sponsors a full western show Sunday August 28 at Lone Pine Ranch Mokena on 187th Street a half mile west of Route 45. Hosts are Mr and Mrs Donald Gerdel. Halter classes begin 830 a m and afternoon events start 1 pm including junior pleasure horsemanship and cutting for riders 17 and under. Barber Hurt In Backroom Fire at Mokena Shop
Mokena barber Andy Hart suffered first degree burns to his hands face and arms last Thursday afternoon while burning rubbish behind his shop. He received medical care from Dr Ernest McMahon and is recuperating at home. A retired barber now operates the business in his absence while Hart plans remodeling after the post office moves. The Front street building was formerly owned by Mrs Ona E Moe Govney.

Two teenage bandits robbed the L. and M. service station on Wolf road north of Mokena last Friday night stealing about $100 and cigarettes. They fled in a brown Pontiac with reportedly stolen plates, one wielding a revolver and forcing attendant Carl Edlund to lie on the floor before escaping. Both suspects were 17 or 18, wearing T shirts. one was bushy haired. Local police alerted state authorities after the incident outside village limits.
