District 56 C voters approved a 69000 bond to add and remodel Ann Rutledge school. The board aims to sell bonds Sept 7 with bids in October and work starting in November to open the 1962 63 school year at a relocated or expanded site due to ongoing renovations.
Maria Anna Henrica Van Den Nouwland a 17 year old Dutch student from Tilburg arrives to attend Lincoln-Way as a senior. She will live with the Bailey family near Manhattan and joins a small group of international pupils including a Milanese boy Edo Campi who studied here last year.
Registration for Frankfort grade school students set for 9:00 a.m. Tuesday Sept 5 with first graders at St Peter's church basement annex. Health and dental records must be current for first and fifth grades. Book sale begins at 1:00 p.m. in the gym with student insurance and milk sales offered. Parents urged to bring only eligible buyers to the sale for efficiency.
Will county fair grounds Peotone hosted the FFA livestock fair with over 3000 dollars in prizes. Lincolne Way high school members Dale Meyer Manhattan Edwin Gierke Frankfort Ron Heisner Frankfort Jim Walsh Manhattan Ray Gast Manhattan and Barry Brown Frankfort earned high ratings across Angus Hereford hog and dairy cattle classes. Prize money totaling 151 dollars and 50 cents was shared by the six honorees.
George Smith formerly of Mokena and resident of Holy Family Villa Lemont died Sunday August 20 in St Loretta Hospital Chicago. Born March 3 1894 in Chicago he was a retired printer for Donnelly and Company and a World War I veteran. Survivors include nieces and nephews James and John Martie of Mokena. Funeral services were held August 23 at St Marys Church Des Plaines with burial at All Saints Cemetery Des Plaines.
Justice of the Peace George E. Sangmeister fines motorists last week totaling 50 dollars. Cases include James C. Mayes of Joliet fined 15 for speeding and Jesse D. Williams of Frankfort fined 9 for speeding. Dennis L. Creps of Frankfort fined 6 for noisy muffler with a 10 dollar charge to Michael Dina of Mokena for speeding. Jessie A. Blackburn of Oak Park fined 10 for failure to yield right of way causing an accident.
Peter W. Cahill announced two new members to the Will County welfare service committee replacing George Lennon and reappointing Raymond Shea. Miss Joan M. Ferry was named temporary caseworker in Will County public aid after selection from the state eligible register.
Frankfort Kansas hosts Sauerkraut Day activities Saturday August 26 with a noon sauerkraut and frankfurter dinner hosted by St Peter's church. A German band from Joliet performs starting at 1 pm. Lions and fire department events include a rope pull water fight and a dog demonstration aiding a Leader Dog from Rochester Michigan. Prizes sponsored by Frankfort merchants awarded throughout the day.
Frank Weiss of 515 S Ced ar Rd New Lenox was ticketed by Joliet police Friday after his car struck a tree in Pilcher Park.
Freshmen at Lincoln Way begin school Thursday August 31 with a half day and again Friday September 1. Labor Day is a holiday and Tuesday September 5 marks the first full attendance day. The early start was begun last year to ease transition for new students.
Notices warn that offices close on Labor Day. Deadline for all news and advertisements to appear in the Sept 7 issue is moved to Friday Sept. 4.
The New Lenox grade school board voted to join Will county in a state pilot guidance program aimed at understanding pupil problems. Verne E. Cracker will direct the project with state funding covering half costs and participating schools covering the rest.
Funeral services for Margareete Cavanaugh Doyle of New Lenox were held at St Jude's Church with burial at St Joseph's Cemetery Manhattan. Alfred E Uthe of Tinley Park died Aug 18 at 59. services at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. The article also notes local education program support by Will County and civil defense cooperation by New Lenox, plus a sidewalk project at Oakview School.
Mokena public grade schools Willowcrest and Carpenter open Tuesday September 5 at 9 00 am for registration and book rental purchase. First and fifth graders require physical exams and dental checkups before the first day. Bring birth certificates for first graders if not yet shown. Rental prices range from 5 and up per grade with several amounts listed. The first full day of school begins September 6.
Final arrangements are made for the annual buffet supper by the Woman's Guild of New Lenox Grace Episcopal Church. Barbeques ham and hot dogs will be featured with salads vegetables rolls and desserts. Guild members assist in serving the public from 5 00 p m this Saturday Aug 26
George E. Sangmeister and August J Santoro form a partnership to run a new law firm in Frankfort at 20 Kansas St. The venture names Sangmeister and Santoro with Santoro, a Chicago native, joining after partner work in Chicago. He plans an LLM in 1962 and recently earned a criminal defense course scholarship at Northwestern University.
