Fire damages hay in barn on Louis Holm farm
About 50 bales of hay burned at a barn on the Louis Holm farm along 143rd Street west of Wolfroad. A smoldering conveyor belt fed the fire, which was quickly stopped by Mokena firefighters with aid from Orland Park and Tinley Park departments.

Pay Last Tribute to William McVey at Burial Today
Fourth district Congressman William E. McVey 72 was buried in Galesburg after dying in Washington DC of a heart attack. Funeral services were held at St. Clement's Episcopal Harvey with Washington paying homage at the service. McVey served as educator and administrator before entering Congress in 1950 and was nearing a fourth term. He faced re election in November against Leland Rayson.
