Coroner clears New Lenox man in Joliet crash case
A Joliet coroner's jury absolved Carl W. Drehle, 50, of 131 W Illinois St New Lenox, of blame for the July 17 U S 66 crash that killed seven. The inquest found Drehle, an operating engineer for Contracting and Material Co Evans ton, likely turned north from Lorenzo Road into the southbound lane three and a half miles south of the scene.

District VFW Conclave Raised Food, Funds For Children Home
About 400 VFW and Auxiliary members in the Fifth Illinois District gathered in Mokena for the quarterly session. They donated roughly 950 food items and $1,000 for the National Home for Children and Widows at Eaton Rapids Michigan while members organized four feeding lines. William Martin post and auxiliary hosted the event. Ray Mann of the home attended. Discussions included creating a district blood bank and a state bank under post command.

Inquest Details Car Crash Involving Ford and Buick
Witnesses testified a north bound 1958 Ford and a Buick northbound in the southbound lane caused the collision. Calvert family members escaped with minor injuries while Elmer Calvert and Mrs. Elvira Ryan were hospitalized. Killed were Dennis Seifert William J. Bianchi and Michael Kommer.
