Arbury Hills School in Summit Hill District No 161 opens Thursday August 31 at 9:00 a.m. Activities on the first day cover room assignments and material distribution with about two hours in session. Sept 1 will be a full day. Bus service starts Aug 31 and milk is $5 per child for the year with no kindergarten classes on Aug 31.

Noontime Fire Destroys Home in Mokena
A fire believed to start near a ceiling fixture damaged the interior of Mrs. Alma Caulfield s residence at 11016 Front St Mokena. She and neighbors escaped as firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to nearby homes. Fire chief Rust cited possible origin around the ceiling fixture with wiring described as nearly new.
