Mokena Heads to Vote on Public Library Referendum
A referendum set for Saturday August 6 will decide if Mokena will gain a tax supported public library. The measure follows a Will County Circuit Court order after a petition to form a Library District that would cover Mokena Grade School District excluding Rolling Heights in New Lenox Township. New Lenox, Orland Park, Tinley Park already have library services.

Funeral rites for Harold W. Speiss former Mokena mayor
Funeral services were held for Harold W. Speiss 66 of 10830 Front Street former Mokena mayor and long time alderman. He died July 30 in Rice Lake Wisconsin while returning from a fishing trip. Speiss served 16 years as alderman and 34 years with Will County Highway Department. He held numerous civic and fraternal memberships and is survived by wife Edna daughter Elaine Bauser Blue Island son Gordon Mokena and several siblings. Burial at St. John's Cemetery followed services at St. John's Church.
