Chester Ebert, Mokena businessman and Ebert Phosphate owner, was appointed to fill the remaining 1 1/2 years of Lyman Teague's school board term. Teague moved to Kansas City after serving as secretary and member. Shooter Hits Boy During Gopher Campfire Incident

Legion Homecoming at Frankfort Draws Crowds
American Legion post in Frankfort held a four day homecoming last week with nightly crowds and a large fireworks display. Proceeds reportedly netted some money to be used for park improvements amid heat and occasional rain. Parade entries numbered 20 with prizes awarded to multiple youth and community groups. A band concert closed the event along with an Amateur Softball District 5 tournament and a local Small Fry final. trophies were presented by Warren Anderson, post commander.

William Sluis Jr of Mokena, a Lincol Way High School graduate, will attend Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University on a McCormick scholarship. The program honors Robert R. McCormick and supports 1961 awardees from 112 considered. Sluis wrote sports for Semmler Press and his school paper. Kindergarten Registration Opens August 12 in Mokena
Registration for the Mokena Happy Hour Kindergarten is set for Saturday August 12 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the local post office. The fall term starts September 5. The program, sponsored by the Mokena Woman's Club, welcomes five year olds born on or before December 1, 1961 from Mokena and nearby areas. A $5 deposit is due at registration and will apply to the first month’s tuition. Mrs. William E. Howard of New Lenox returns as director after heading last year’s class. If already registered for fall, attendances not required.
