The Randolph county circuit court enters its third day with limited business but expect more active sessions. Key actions include a demurrer in City of Moberly ex rel Robertson v School District sustained, and numerous motions to dismiss or for costs, with several defendants filing answers and judgments recorded. A juror selection by the sheriff and multiple divorce and land cases are noted, including a land tract dispute near the city and a penitentiary sentence for John Fleming in a larceny case.
Judge Hockaday ruled for the Moberly School District in a suit by Mr Robertson of Iowa seeking payment of tax bills tied to West Rollins street and compound interest. Robertson will likely appeal to the Supreme Court. The decision holds the board not liable even when the contract was created, a clear win for the defendants and encouragement for them.
The funeral for the late Sam P. Frame is set for tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock from the C P Church. Rev. Geo D Willingham will conduct the services with interment in Oakland Cemetery.
Ba Kaufman sold 1080 Concan street formerly owned by Gus Claudon to A F Younger. The Younger family will occupy the residence with a $700 consideration. Miss Reinhart and sister Mrs. Hurst of St. Louis hosted about fifty Moberly Indies at her South Williams street residence. Six banded euchre provided fun with prizes for Lizzie Palmer, Mrs. Harve Pilcher, and Mrs. Alsobroo. Refreshments followed at 6:30, guests praised the hostess and admired the visiting ladies.
Mr AL Bunker will start a shorthand and typewriting class around Sept 15 at 208 South Clark Street after 6:30 p.m. The $5 monthly fee includes use of a typewriter. A club meeting last night planned entertainment for Hon. Jas A Reed of Kansas City on Sept 23 and discussed a monster rally in October with Mr Weed as guest and a committee on arrangements led by Col. Waller.
