John W. Cookman, wanted for the murder of John Merida near Dresden, was arrested on a farm south of Coal by Constable Bud Davin after a description circulated from Sedalia. He surrendered fearing mob violence and asked not to be moved to Pettis County, appearing calm but fearful upon capture.

The bride, widow of the late George Willer, is well known here. the groom, a prominent Atchison businessman, plans to live there after the wedding. A reception followed at Mrs. Steinkamp’s residence on East Rollins Street with about 75 guests. Local society congratulates the couple. A later note mentions an entertainment by the Select Knights and Ladies of America at Engineers' Hall on Tuesday evening May 28, with admission ten cents.
