May 17 Havana reports rising war sentiment as Cuban generals clash over leadership and a tense plan to disband the army with a 2,000,000 loan from American allies. Gen Gomez hesitates as allies seek to replace commanders while Brooke sides with a broader settlement and Rivera lashed as a Gomes ally.
Washington May 17 Administration officials and army officers regard the Cuban situation as extremely grave. They believe strong tact and diplomacy will be needed to prevent Cubans from aligning against the United States as they did with Spain. The discussion centers on preventing escalation and averting a broader conflict.
Tirooke is not approved in all its details by superiors yet the need to disarm Cuban soldiers by force is not approved. The Doings aim to please not irritate, and Gen Brooke should keep this policy in mind. A conflict with the Cubans is not desired and will be avoided if possible. If there is any uprising in Guo Brooke will remain at his post.
The Marlo Doty Company delivered the best production seen here, with Harle Doty as Meplasta and Miss Rosa May Doty as Milliguerite praised as superb and delightful. The Dotys, famed in theatre, compare to Morrison Companies in rival cities. Costumes and stage effects were elegant, and the show promises a second, uproarious romance comedy tonight titled A Hot Old Wine.
