Washington May 1 The commerce department said business conditions are improving with larger production and increased exports. Manufacturing is on good schedules and prices continue to fall, notably in living costs, though data remain incomplete to gauge public purchasing. The report expects steady improvement despite no imminent boom.
Morgantown West Virginia Professor De R C Spangler of West Virginia University refuses to answer five Bryan questions on evolution and religion accepting a $100 reward if he did. Spangler argues evolution applies to plants and cites Genesis verses as harmonious with science and rain and flood timelines.

Mrs Adah Hammond died yesterday morning at Woodland hospital after hip injury. She was 44, formerly of Moberly, survived by son George Hammond of Brunswick and daughter Mrs Wells of Chicago. Burial and funeral arrangements were to be in Brunswick.
Parkview Saddle Sale drew strong interest as Parkview Ridline Academy in Sunset Hill district, Kansas, hosted a large audience. Dr. Davis and family traveled from Kansas to support the event where Mountain Missin sold for 3560 dollars to a buyer from Portland, Oregon.
Guiel of Police Mize received a telegram from Kansas City authorities stating a warrant exists for Russell Meadows on a charge of embezzlement tied to fake oil stock. Meadows was found in Moberly at a log cabin hotel. he claimed no understanding of the message and was taken into custody awaiting Kansas County officer arrival.
Wathen, who led Rice, told the Demoncrat that police reports Saturday alleging he cut his father with a butcher knife are exaggerated and wholly untrue. He claims his father injured the hand previously and reopened the wound, causing bleeding, and that he never struck his father in his life.
W. Davis a stock man at O Keefe Wholesale Grocery suffered paralysis in the right leg this morning. He was moved to a doctor s office and later returned home by fellow employees.
In Marshall Missouri early Sunday a fire destroyed a residence linked to Joe Saunders and wife. Three of four bandits were captured after a gun battle in Lexington with one wounded. loot valued at about 2000 dollars recovered from their car alongside thirteen suitcases.
Kansas City May 1 Five negroes were reported killed three or four missing and several others injured when an explosion wrecked a rooming house early today. Gas flames sparked the blast as walls collapsed and surrounding fronts and windows were damaged.
Moberty's oldest resident Mrs. Wien Hughes, long time Moberly dweller, died at home on West Reed Street early this morning at age 79. Survived by three daughters and two sons, she will be buried in Macon after a funeral at St. John's Catholic Church conducted by Rev. Downey.
The death of Pearl Davis a 20 year old formerly of St. Louis at a midnight party at Castle Farm Resort is under police investigation. Ruby Lane another attendee said liquor was present and Davis was found unconscious near a veranda with a fractured skull. Four male party members are being sought for questioning.
Sheriff John Milam arrested Jack Gordon last night near College Mound for robbery. Gordon allegedly stole several pieces of jewelry from residents in the area.
In Huntsville near East Yt and Austin streets a Sunday fight between Prof Glascock and Joe Plainhoe ended with no bloodshed. Glascock said he would not fight on Sunday to protect his clothing, while Miss Burge slapped him at school later an umbrella blocked Tom Burge’s club attack. No prosecution pursued and order restored at the school.
In Detroit on May 1 Charley Robertson pitched a no hit no run game against Pillette before about 26 000 fans at Navin Field. The White Sox won with two runs in the second inning while Pillette's performance sparkled but failed to prevent the historic feat. Only two other pitchers in modern major league history have achieved this distinction.
Reports from Tien Tsing describe three active fronts in China's civil war with Beijing under martial law. Factional fighting led by Chang Ta sin claims victory near the capital, and hundreds of prisoners are said to have been taken. Geo Millot 25 shot and killed his brother in law Rosea K Johnson 33 on a downtown Cape Girardeau street corner as Johnson’s wife watched from a car. Millot fired eight shots, five hitting Johnson in head and chest. He claimed motive from a divorce suit and threats by Johnson. a coroner’s jury charged Millot and he posted 2500 bond. Johnson, not armed, had challenged the divorce case. Millot, a service carrier, is unmarried.
Four bandits in a large train car entered the Liberty Theatre in Sedalia Missouri early today slugged two watchmen and blew open the safe escaping with several hundred dollars in cash.
During May day demonstrations in Mayence Germany an American officer was shot in the shoulder and his chauffeur beaten after his car was driven into a crowd. A struggle ensued with the officer firing a revolver injuring himself and the chauffeur. James W. Myers former Moberly official died in Kansas City on Saturday and funeral arrangements were announced. He is survived by three sons and one daughter.

Mrs W J Landram aged 14 died at her Cairo home on Saturday night. She was a noted member of the county and a devout Presbyterian. Funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 30 pm with burial at Grand Prairie.
