Pleasantly spent in social chat the afternoon featured a two course meal. First served sandwiches olives coffee and the second course cream of pink and white colors angel food lemon and fig cakes. Hostess showed cordial charm making guests feel at home and every moment pleasurable. Lodge visitors included Mas dames Mary and Thomas Turley.
Builders finished No 304 Reed Street space into a charming parlor for Martin and Thackston shoe emporium. A large stock of women men and children’s footwear arrived and will debut to the public on Saturday March 18 with Omar Martin W Thackston and head clerk Mrs Zahl guiding customers. Henry Peters oversees shoe making and the firm promotes M A Packard McDonald Kiley and EE P Reed brand shoes while promising courteous service. A Central Male Quartette performance at Fourth Street M church on March appears as part of Epworth League events.
Petitions signed by every residential property owner in Southwest Moberly were filed with City Clerk John I Curry seeking brick paving on Fort street from Carpenter to Gillman and Gillon from Fort to Sandison. The move expects council approval at the next meeting and early start. Water mains will be laid with 1500 feet on Carpenter Street and 1000 feet on West Rollins. new residences, including a $7000 brick structure, are planned as part of a local boom.
Multiple circuit court entries show continued cases in love and land disputes. Decrees grant divorce and name restorations for several plaintiffs with custody provisions, while McRoberts versus Snell & Co. centers on a land sale dispute in Monroe county. Tonight preachers post a Northeast chapel service. a church board session at Fourth Street is noted. Chillicothe and Moberly plan baseball club reorganizations signaling spring.

In Jefferson City on March 16 the senatorial deadlock continued as the Niedringhaus faction voted as a bloc for Boose while Kerens supporters split their ballots among Kerens Parker and Warner. Three ballots produced Gockrell, 1. Niedringhaus, 58. Kerens, 16. Parker, 13. Warner, 1.
In Moberly, Katy and Wabash railroad staff show changes and travel. Brakeman Ben Page retires for a deserved vacation while Conductor Bernie Hunter resumes work after a leg injury. Several transfers, new positions, and layoffs are noted among crews including John Lange, Tom McCaskey, Chas Ibarson, and others. The pay car schedule and express office cleanup are also mentioned.
Wabash division freight agent W. B. Jennings and maintenance of way engineer A. G. Trippeer visited Moberly on Tuesday afternoon and discussed a potential site for the gas plant along the Wabash line, though no definite decision was reached.
The East Side Christian Endeavor held a mask social at Mr. and Mrs. George Dulaney’s home last night. About half the attendees wore masks with many costumes noted as stylish or humorous. Ice cream cake and fruit were served and the event cleared about ten dollars from a small admission fee. Jack Little of near Madison is visiting Moberly today.
