Cuban General Gomes Removed by Cuban Military Assembly

The Cuban military assembly impeached and removed General Maximo Gomes from command of the Cuban army after a 26 to 4 vote. The assembly criticized his independence from them and disobedience, amid passionate speeches, while Gomes was believed to be popular with the troops. He accepted the envoy Robert Porter’s proposition and said he would follow assembly rulings if beneficial to Cuba.

Sedalia Storm Causes Severe Damage and Injuries

A powerful windstorm hit Sedalia on Saturday afternoon from 2 o clock, with south winds rising to southwest hurricane force. Homes lost rafters and chimneys, Liberty park amphitheatre roof torn, signs toppled, wires damaged, and one teen, William Wright Jr., aged 17, was fatally injured by a falling chimney.
