George Thornburg and City Assessor Grose Bounds toured Moberly to assess property when a large aggressive St Bernard charged from a Franklin street yard. The pair fled toward a gate colliding, then regained footing and left, joking they would skip the house if it remained unassessed.
In Kansas City a contested police judge election ends with McAuley still on the bench after Brumback’s five court defeats. Brumback and city officials refuse to recognize McAuley, a crowd gathers outside as the court resumes with McAuley presiding. Brumback plans next moves as he watches from the gallery.
The Kansas City Times reports a surge in home gardens as damp ground and rains revive planting for a second crop of radishes, lettuce, onions, squash, beans and peas. Store activity booms with many customers and seed houses rushing supplies amid hopes for vegetables before frost.
A Mrs J Stout reportedly cured of consumption after using Dr Kings New Discovery gaining 87 pounds to reach 90 pounds and was said to be completely cured. The claims include thousands cured with a 60 dollar price and free trial bottles at a Kansas City druggist.
An old advertisement claims Rex on A Th cures constipation and kidney and liver complaints, purifies the blood, and beautifies the complexion. It promises refunds by druggists if it fails and lists a price of 25 cents per package.
Ald the Farmers reports Mexico Missouri July 31 that Dr J B Hawkins and others suggest bonding the county for 500000 to 10 30 years to rock or gravel main thoroughfares to aid workers this winter. They recall a 300000 Chicago Alton bond and claim bonds could be sold at a premium to fund road work and drought relief. The note also praises Chamberlains Cough Remedy for coughs and colds and hopping cough.
An old advertisement touts Dr King’s New Life Pills as the key to a strong appetite sound digestion and regular bowels. The copy claims better health and energy and mentions price of 25 cents for the pills from Dr Burk’s store in the East Side.
Mrs Elizabeth Mathieu aged about seventy died at her home in Kokomo Indiana at 1:80 this morning after a illness of over two years. She leaves seven daughters and four sons with O Ratzer the only daughter in the city at her bedside. Funeral arrangements not yet perfected likely to be in Oakland Cemetery.

A young Brushy Crooks farmer, Francis Boyer, was jailed in Wayne County after a Saturday shooting at Tindell's Mill near Mill Spring Mo. He allegedly killed Abraham, claiming prior quarrel over conduct with Abraham's wife. Authorities say Boyer and Abraham's wife were friends and that Abraham summoned Boyer days earlier for a confrontation.
An early 20th century advertisement touts Rex Two as a blood purifier that cleanses the system, regulates kidneys and liver, and improves complexion. It claims to cure consumption and offers refunds if not effective, priced at 25 cents per package.
The central figure Col John O Day, a Baltimore lawyer and railroad magnate, rose from modest beginnings to national prominence. He married several times, including Miss Sarah Jane Campt Ali and Mrs Mary Vail, with divorces noted in 1887 and 1899. His death by self-inflicted action at Lindel Hotel occurred in 1901, with remains sent from Baltimore to Springfield for burial.
