Dawson Murder Case Near Verdict After Dramatic Trial
The state rested after completing testimony in the Dawson murder case with details of a marriage license, a minister, and a refused wedding. Dawson allegedly vowed to kill the bride, borrowed a pistol before the dance, and boasted of killing someone that night. The defense argued mental unsoundness and intoxication. Dawson denied threats and recalled nothing of the dance or shots. He testified briefly, wept during proceedings, and the jury was expected to be chosen today. Separately, Wm. S. Ross, 73, died at the waterworks from pneumonia after a long illness, survived by his wife and ten children. He once ran a engine on the St Louis to Kansas City line and helped found the waterworks engineering role, was a Mason, and remembered for railroad life with the Old Reliable.

Threatening letter sent to Joplin pastor after revival
Rev. W. F. Turner pastor of the First Christian church in Joplin Missouri received an anonymous letter threatening violence and to burn his house if he did not leave the city. Turner had recently led a revival that reported 675 conversions, a world record in the Christian church.

Woman burned to death in Indiana house fire
Mrs Mary Burns aged living near Spurgeon Pike County Indiana died yesterday in a house fire. Neighbor Daniel Booker was seriously burned while attempting to rescue her.
