In Birmingham on February 28 Lou Cook left a 2 year old in charge of her 6 year old daughter Lizzie at home near Tuscaloosa. The younger child cried, and Lizzie, after failed attempts to quiet the infant, drew a brand from the fire and set the baby’s garments ablaze. The mother returned to a scene of burning clothes and the infant dying from injuries. The older girl confessed to starting the fire.
