Hattie Liggett alias Mrs Hat tie Giddings, a noted adventuress, tried a graft in Callao last week but was exposed by the Democracy. She claimed to be Christina Gildart of Pasadena and said she was robbed of 70 dollars, a watch, and a diamond ring. The tale included a claim of California kinship and a plan to refund once she reached home. The report also notes her pretensions to Stratton and a recent funeral in Boonesboro Howard County for Mrs. Katherine Carson born 1816 in North Carolina.

Eugene Munson sold the F. W. Coakley property at 813 West Reed street in Moberly to S. A. Ritter of Ralfe Iowa. Ritter plans to move in and make Moberly his future home. Munson also closed a 320 acre Audrain county farm sale to Illinois parties and a $9,000 shoe stock sale in Illinois, totaling over $60,000 in property changes since January 1.
Kansas City papers publish six United States signal corps members killed in action in the Philippines. Among the names is Louis Solomon, formerly a Moberly resident and longtime Democrat carrier, son of Mrs Childs of West Bond street. The death grieves his wide circle of friends.
John Elsen a driver for Nise's east side butcher shop broke his right collar bone when he fell while delivering meat to Mrs Kellar on East Rollins street Saturday night. Dr Halliburson set the fracture. He previously broke his left clavicle five years ago. The item also notes Mrs Stigall in Jacksonville is ill and Phares Weis has returned from Bromwich and Cameron, feeling slightly indisposed.

Prosecuting Attorney Doyle wrote Mrs Nellie Vandegrift in Washington last week saying he held her alleged husband in jail and that she must pay a witness to prove the marriage. She replied, promising to furnish evidence of her marriage, and a witness who knows both parties may testify here.
Joe Martin and his wife welcomed a baby girl Friday night at their home south of town. Both mother and child are reported healthy. Dr Hickerson notes the only amusing point is that Joe did not have a chance to blow his horn.
Rey Campbell led morning services at the M. I. church South with a sermon centered on the lamps representing church members.
