William Qollings Whitney died at his New York City home after an abdominal incision examination. Born July 15 1841 in Conway Massachusetts he studied at Yale and Harvard Law School and served as secretary of the navy under Grover Cleveland. He had earlier been corporation counsel and a cabinet member for four years.
Will Stamm of this city and Miss Anna Mann of St Touts plan to marry at the German Catholic church this city on Wednesday February 16. Bonds will be published for the first time next Sunday. Stamm is son of W J Stamm and works for the Wabash. Mann is described as a pretty young lady. The Democrat joins friends in extending congratulations and best wishes.
Mrs. Thos. Dawson of Higbed shopped in the city today while Mrs. Robert Bassett rests at home on South Clark Street. Willie Backett traveled to Marshall to visit relatives. Harry Hale went to Kansas City for a brief visit. Tony Sasse and wife returned from Brunswick and Kansas City. Dr. McHugh of St. Louis visited friends en route to Omaha. Mr. Day returned home near Cairo after visiting his daughter, Mrs Winters. M. Jackson left for the east after visiting his daughter, Mrs. Max Lowenstein. Arthur Spilman of Moberly Portrait Co. returned from Indiana. Mrs. Dr. Lewis of Kansas City visited relatives. W. A. Wight and family were traveling. Elmer Hall returned from New Orleans to visit his parents. George Deskin and Mr. Turner plan to open a restaurant west of Maullen’s. Chas. Kelso became night clerk at the Wahash hotel, James Shea resigning. Almon McCall arrived from Shreveport, La. and may stay to start a business. Christ Church Litany will be read this afternoon. Indies meeting to follow. Nell Rose returned to Marshall. Mrs. John Healen accompanies as guest. Missionary tea hosted by Mesdanecea Wray and others tomorrow on Adama Avenue with matinee and evening sessions. A choir program will be performed. Commercial Club members hosted wives and friends at the club parlors with a large crowd and a pleasant program led by Miss Vira Curran and assistants. Ladies night at the Commercial Club offered an evening for the ladies. Joe Litwen and family mourn the death of a three-year-old, who died this morning in Clinton, Missouri. Funeral arrangements not yet completed.
Mis Mike McCanhe hosts a West Side domino night with guests including Mia Chan Clark who wins the ladies prize. W Q Davin also participates while other players join in a lively afternoon of table games and refreshments.
Miss Nannie Bryan died in Lincoln Nebraska and lay in state en route to her former home in Salem Illinois. W J Bryan and Charles Bryan accompanied the body with Mrs Thos S Allen and Mrs James Beard. Funeral held in Salem with Rev Rowland. Col Bryan and Mrs Beard were summoned to Lincoln but she died before they arrived. The family planned a Goebel memorial address in Frankfort Kentucky and a Florida visit with Gov Jennings. A NEW SON born to Geo Whittington and wife this morning.
Hol Kaufman announces a one day only sale of 25 cent layer cakes along with cream rolls putta angel food cakes sugar coated doughnuts buns and bread baked fresh daily and offered at reasonable prices. Theatre patrons must pick up Wizard of Oz seats by noon Friday.
