Wabash Suit Over Illinois Fall Injuries
Macon county farmer M B Ayers sues the Wabash railroad for 20000 claiming injuries from a spring near La Plata when a passenger train struck him as he rested on the track after walking to meet someone. The railroad contests trespass and says Ayers was asleep on the track. Ayers, an early Klondike claimant, had remarried his wife after a divorce.

Missouri's corn crop is expected to surpass the 1896 record of 260 million bushels with an area of 7,645,000 acres and an average yield near forty bushels per acre, totaling over 805 million bushels. Lightning Strikes Mrs. Taines Home. Roof Damaged
During a heavy storm early today the residence of Mrs. J.9. Taines at Fourth and Logan streets was struck by lightning. The west roof section suffered severe damage with shingles torn and ornamental woodwork destroyed. Miss Allie Haines was severely shocked though not seriously hurt.
