Pupils of Loretto Academy enjoy a dining retreat this week led by Rev Wa P Lyons of Florissant Mo. It marks a historic first for the academy as students engage with earnest devotion and reflect on their spiritual accounts with God.
A retreat summary extols Father as guiding souls through topics like Why are we placed on Earth and Sin and its evil consequences. The retreat closes Saturday morning with High Mass and benediction. The writer praises the priest and his instructional works.

Ladies of First Presbyterian Church and friends enjoyed a charming reception hosted by the second section at Mrs Frank Martin's West Reed Street home. About fifty guests attended despite poor weather. hosts Mrs Kanie Martin Mrs Lana Colu Mr West and Miss Jessie Melride arranged games and music by Miss Stelle Price of Huntsville with brick ice cream and cake served. guests praised the event as among the best hosted by the society.
Members of the Epworth League of the First M. E. Church were hosted at the Reed sisters residence on South Williams Street last evening. An enjoyable evening included refreshments and warm hospitality from the gracious hostesses.
N D Minor of Huntsville married Miss Logie Miller of Kentucky in a buggy ceremony outside Rev W A Simmons home on West Rollins Street. The couple met when she visited Huntsville, and Minor is described as a self made local from Stan dolph County. Attendants Arthur Johnson and the groom’s sister also rode in a buggy.
Andrew Carnegie launches a six million dollar fund to provide annuities for college professors unable to continue service. Vanderlip of National City Bank says U S Steel first mortgage bonds totaling sixteen million dollars will go to trustees to establish a new corporation. MIT president Pritchett and Vanderlip named to gather data for the board meeting on November 15. Merchants hotel adds new phones to enable in-room calls and inter-room communication. A committee led by Willett and Woo Morris aims to stage two top amateur baseball teams for Decoration Day to attract 1500 to 2000 spectators and justify the price of admission. At a Clark school board meeting on Wednesday night Prof J Y Keiter of Higbee was elected principal for the next term. The Democrat congratulates the Clark school board on its choice and expects a first class school year.
