At a 1700s inspired social gathering, attendees wore floral bodices and pastel gowns with blue ribbons. One standout display featured pink and white fabrics, while guests admired artful attire and coordinated accessories in a colorful, formal setting.
Hot Springs South Dakota hosts the national coursing meet with the Minnelmathi club cup feature on day one. About 6 000 spectators witnessed 26 events as Bert MelPadden of Oklahoma rode and James Nace of Denver assisted. Frank Essham of Denver led the organizing. Scores listed show numerous dogs from Central City Colorado Denver and Chicago posting wins and seconds. event continues for a month with key futurities and cups scheduled through October.
Menno South Dakota September 27 W S Tipton of the state board of charities and corrections presents the biennial report to the governor. Total inmates June 20 1906 across establishments include 641 in the insane hospital 106 at the northern hospital 39 in the penitentiary 70 at the reform school 62 in the schools for the blind and deaf and 8 others, totaling 1126 inmates.
The Baptist and Methodist denominations plan state conventions in Brookings with events Oct 3 7 for Baptists and Oct 11 14 for Methodists. The Baptist meeting marks the South Dakota association’s silver anniversary from 1881. Bishop Cranston will preside over the Methodist session.
Rapid City man N J Henderson nearly drowned while crossing the swollen Cheyenne river on horseback. The horse vanished underwater, trapping Henderson in the saddle before he freed himself. Exhausted, he surfaced and was rescued by nearby Milwaukee railroad workers who found him unconscious and revived him.
Sivedis Asadoorian an Assyrian pastor from Iroquois South Dakota tried to marry Jessie Harris a prominent Iroquois woman. He first obtained a Beadle county license then a Yankton county license but the weddings were postponed and Harris delayed the ceremony until Christmas. He returned to Lebanon and Harris resumed her Yankton College studies.
John Trewhella, a strong former prize fighter, lies near death after a confrontation with John Nelson on a ranch in Custer. Trewhella, drunk on his birthday, threatened to kill Nelson. Nelson defended himself with a large pocket knife, leaving Trewhella with multiple ugly wounds and possible death.
The South Dakota Woman's Christian Temperance Union elected new officers for the coming term with Mrs Wuella A Rimsey of Woonsocket named president and a slate including vice president Mrs Ploy Cochrane Brookings and other officers from Hartford Mitchell and Wessington Springs. Twelve speakers from across the state will participate in the double diamond oratorical contest tonight.
Deadwood South Dakota September 25 United States authorities move to arrest Bartelero and Basalo who vanished during a bankruptcy hearing. The firm formerly operated in Lead faced a suspicious post fire sale and insurance claims amounting to thousands before bankruptcy. Referee Stewart sent documents to Judge Curland in Sioux Falls and requested measures to apprehend the men.
Vermillion South Dakota reports Harry S. Reeves aged eighteen as possibly the youngest sanitary inspector with the Panama Canal project. He has studied at the state university for two years and will earn a good salary while learning health inspection duties by visiting workers daily and arranging hospital transport for contagious cases. His sister Edith Reeves also receives recognition in the same notice.
Miss Reeves and her brother, children of Mr and Mrs E G Reeves of Vermillion, pursue Radcliffe College fellowships in Cambridge Massachusetts. She graduates from the U S D last spring and has led in debating circles for two years, the only girl to take part in interstate university debates. The Reeves family moved from Carthage South Dakota to educate their children.
Bonesteel South Dakota September reports the town of Murphy once hoped to grow on ceded Rosebud land is no more after the post office closed and fixtures shipped to Washington. Once Eden and later Murphy, the town struggled with law and land issues, rival post offices, and residents moving dwellings to Dixon and surrounding farms. Steps aim to open the remaining eighty acres to homestead entry.
Rapid City reports state food and dairy commissioner W Smail touring the region to inspect food premises including saloons grocery stores hotels and boarding houses. He notes slaughter houses remain hard to judge and the town lacks a board of health as Aberdeen does not have one. Smail plans to visit the northern Hills for a week or ten days.
In Huron South Dakota on September 24 a bigamy case against tailor A Aktoersky ended after a settlement with wife No 1 from Alexandria Russia who agreed to finance her trip and obtain a divorce from a Jewish rabbi. He admits being married to wife No 1 and wife No 2 Emily Heuter of Bridgewater SD with whom he resides in Huron.
Sioux Falls Sept 22 insurgents carry 33 of 53 counties with senatorial and legislative nominees. Stalwarts win 12 counties. eight counties not yet reported may favor indorsing the insurgent platform and Gamble for re election. Counties carried by insurgents include Aurora Beadle Bon Homme Brookings Brule Campbell Charles Mix Clay Coddington Custer Davison Deuel Fall River Faulk Grant Hamlin Hand Hanson Hyde Hutchinson Kingsbury Lake Lincoln Moody Pennington Potter Roberts pink Sanborn Turned Union Walworth Yankton. Thirty Japanese workers join the Ciyto Rock Island and Pacific railway crews in Watertown with 100 more slated to follow between Watertown and Whilsworth. The laborers, part of an army of Marshal Oyama, are trained soldiers who speak no English and practice rifle targets as recreation.

Organizers expect up to 10,000 visitors over 30 days with multiple stakes including the Minnekatha Cup, Mississippi Valley futurity and Waterloo events. The 1500 by 350 foot course on College Hill will host 64 dog entries and cups worth up to 2500.
Francis Salem attacked Abe Sawyer head of the Assyrian colony in Sioux Falls with a nailed scantling while Sawyer walked home. The blow aimed at the head struck Sawyer’s left arm, knocking it useless. Salem fled but was captured by county authorities and faces assault with intent to murder charges.
Miss Louise Modregger, operator at Northwestern Telephone, was named Queen of the Carnival after a two week contest. Final vote count shows Modregger 12,481 votes, Lulu Guenther 3,468, Ida Wishpeck 1,288, Winnie Ray 151, Issie Isurns 474.
Judge Bailey appoints George T. Blackman of Sioux Falls administrator of John McClellan estate. Bond set at 50 000 dollars. Blackman follows William Van Nps who died recently. Appointment aids Little Rock claimants amid ongoing争 dispute over the estate's possession in this city.
In Sioux Falls on Sept 21 Miss Elsie M Burnside daughter of ex mayor George W Burnside wed Harry Amick of Watertown. The ceremony at the Burnsides home was conducted by Dean Cornell of Calvary Cathedral. The couple will spend two weeks in Minneapolis before relocating to Watertown.
Good progress is reported in Sioux Falls as work moves on the planned First Congregational church costing about $50,000. Officials hope to finish the foundation and first story walls before winter, aiming for completion next summer.
