Bullock divorce denied custody to Mrs Bullock by Judge Haney

Judge Haney denied H R Bullock a divorce and awarded custody of their child to Mrs Bullock after a Plankinton trial. The couple wed in Illinois in 1887 and moved to Aurora county. The decision notes Mrs Bullock’s health and behavior, and cites interference by Bullock’s sister as a factor.

Settled It By Marriage in Sheriff’s Quick Justice

Sheriff Cook brought Don Hill back from Montrose on Omaha Monday night to face charge of criminal intercourse with Chet Dutton’s daughter. Judge Abbey urged marriage as an honorable escape and Hill agreed. The couple wed at Dutton’s home with a 160 acre landholding and future funds upon Hill coming of age. A Woonsocket Populist editors’ meeting followed.

Geological Survey party wraps up in Mitchell for winter

United States Geological Survey team led by Wallace Getchell Griffin and Dasil Duke finished field work in the Jim River valley covering over 2000 square miles this season. They plan to store survey gear in Mitchell for the winter and resume from the south line of Davison and Hanson counties later.

City Council Sets Tax Levy and Yearly Appropriations

A special council meeting conducted the 214 mill general levy plus 1 mill sinking fund total 224 mills amounting to 17 419 74 for city expenses next year. Allocations cover interest and indebtedness 6505 00 sinking fund 774 21 fire department 400 00 street improvements 1 000 00 printing 200 00 salaries 3 000 00 lights 1 692 00 water works 3 000 00 cemetery 200 00 contingent 648 52. The Goodykoontz tax case bill of 110 was allowed after explanation by Mr Goodykoontz. curfew and peddler ordinances received final reading and pass. City officers await confirmation.

Hinckley cleared in grand larceny case. police chief appointment delayed

Mayor Seaman postpones naming a police chief to consult council members. Sheriff Cook returns with Col. Hinckley, recently arrested for grand larceny, but Judge Abbey discharged Hinckley after evidence showed no criminal intent. The case involved a rented rig and a disputed payment of 175 dollars.

Lee sisters entertain Mitchell audience with pastor visit

Rev W S Graham of Dakota University preached at the Mitchell Methodist church last Sunday with the Lee sisters from Mitchell providing vocal selections that drew a large audience. They later performed Monday evening in the M E church to broad approval, and Beresford residents look forward to their return.

University Opens Fall Term Led by President Graham

Dakota University opened its fall term this Thursday with President Graham noting the enrollment should be satisfactory. Prof and Mrs Schaffner arrived on campus and are domiciled there. Mrs Schaffner, formerly Miss Brockett, teaches stenography and typing and married Prof Schaffner in August.
