London reports British reinforcements from India bolster efforts east of Paris as Anglo French forces press the German line. Maubeuge fortress falls with heavy French and British losses. Berlin confirms 40,000 prisoners and four generals. Other dispatches note German checks around Verdun and Nancy.
The German right wing swung from Liege toward a position east of Paris, about 200 miles, while the rest of the army held.
