Connections from St Louis and Chicago align with the 9:00 am St Paul departure and the Chicago evening train. The Baxter family of 321 East 100th Street were found dead from gunshot in their rooms. John Baxter, a painter, reportedly son of a known ninth ward figure, possibly insane, left a note to his mother. A bulldog lay nearby and a revolver with three rounds was found.
In Red Oak Michigan James Burns and a woman called his daughter Alice were found dead in their home nine miles from town. A neighbor forced entry and found Burns dead on a bed with the woman strangled beside him. Authorities think Burns died naturally while the woman may have killed herself from grief.
