Free silver club split as petition used in campaign

A five or six year old free silver club in the city planned discussions on free silver without forming a party. Republicans who signed the petition now see fusionists peddling it as campaign literature to claim Pettigrew’s consistency on free silver. The point made is Pettigrew was whipped four years ago and clings to the idea, while Republicans pursued other solutions to the hard times.

Four Years Show Which Side Holds Greater Wisdom

Four years have demonstrated which had the greater wisdom. The free silver issue was defeated four years ago but even the fusionists do not seem to admit it and it will be necessary for the republicans to take another decisive stance to complete its demise.

Senatorial Record for Davison County Legislators Compared

The piece compares fusionist and Republican records for Davison County in 1895 and 1897. It highlights Geo Schlund as a Populist who introduced one bill and one resolution in 1895 and served on two committees in 1897. It notes the lone 1895 bill, Senate Bill No. 172 on shotgun license taxes, and a petition against Article 24 resubmission. It argues Johnston and Bras are superior choices to Schlund for effective representation.
