Express car holdup nets up to two hundred thousand

A seven man gang dynamited an Atlantic coast express car on the Richmond Fredericksburg and Potomac line and rifled safes carrying an estimated 150000 to 200000 dollars. Murder and Robbery Near Grass Valley Claims Two Laborers

In Grass Valley California on October 13 two railroad laborers Dennis Scanlan and Joseph Kennedy were attacked by two unknown men while returning from work. Kennedy was bound and gagged as Scanlan confronted the attackers, receiving a hammer blow and dying almost immediately. Both men were robbed and Kennedy later freed himself to report the crime.
