Dakota Wesleyan dominated most of the play in Brookings territory and edged the hosts 6 to 0. Mitchell relied on fast fake plays and timely punts while Brookings failed to capitalize on scoring chances in a ragged, turnover prone contest.
Frank Weller has spent substantial sums on farm improvements across multiple townships and on a city residence. His investments include 800 on southeast quarter 23 Beulah, 2500 on east half 85 Lisbon, 2200 on northwest quarter 24 Plano, 12000 on east half 34 Perry, 2000 on south half section 3 Perry, and 3000 on his Fourth Avenue West home. The old house has been updated into a modern, tasteful residence without flashy displays.
The jury found Walter Wallace guilty after deliberating until 1 a m for stealing $30 from a man named Brad. The state was represented by T. J. Spangler with Lauritz Miller for the defense. Separately Ada Munger was granted divorce from Harry Munger with custody of their three year old daughter. The circuit court opened one thirty in the afternoon as Jacob Buyer pleaded not guilty to selling intoxicants and Fred West faced rape charges involving Rosa French with three jurors seated and nine excused at press time.
Mr and Mrs E W Har of near Mount Vernon stayed at the Mitchell hotel with their seven week old baby after a Canada trip. The infant was found dead in its crib about 2 am, suspected to have suffocated while lying face down. Undertaker Noble received the body for burial.
Two big projects start Friday as the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul company begins ground work for a new Mitchell passenger depot. Foreman Larson leads excavating while six cars of lumber cement iron arrive. The depot will be 34 feet wide east half and 28 feet wide west half, with a two story section planned and two parks on Main street to beautify the grounds. Funeral services for L. Q. Hardesty held at Noble on Friday afternoon with Rev. Bowdish officiating. burial in Graceland.
In circuit court on Thursday and Friday several cases concluded. Frank Cummings confessed guilt to grand larceny for stealing a suitcase in Ethan. the jury found him guilty at eight. Jacob Bujer faced liquor sale charges with a plea to be entered Saturday. Bell Hall admitted guilt to running a house of ill fame. sentence included a $75 fine. Henry Austerhouse pled guilty to prairie fire misdemeanor with a $150 fine. Walter Wallace faced state charges for stealing $30 from a cash register at a local restaurant.
