Tragic Well Death in Powell Township

Mrs George Harris of Powell township Edmunds county was found dead at the bottom of a four by nine foot well after her buggy struck the well while returning from her sister’s home. Her six children and husband survive. The accident allegedly involved a stray horse and a failed climb from the well. The scene and faint witness accounts point to a drowning struggle and exhaustion.

Plankinton, S D. Nov. 15. Editor Taubman of the Herald survived a gunshot attack in his office on November 6. A reward of 1000 dollars posted by the city council for the arsonist’s arrest and conviction. Taubman had recently published a disputed article and cites enmity among politicians as a possible motive. A posse searched the town but the assailant remains at large.

Cook Graver's companion was not indicted due to insufficient evidence. The jury refused to indict Thomas W Taubman of the Plankinton Herald for printing improper matter.
