Sioux Falls S D November 12 George W Egan disbarred attorney and states attorney elect plans to start an evening Democratic newspaper in Sioux Falls around January 1909 He solicits stock totaling 22000 taking about 10000 and will likely lead editorial matters This comes as a surprise given his Republican alignment and disbarment.
In Pierce County Lemmon secures northeastern county governance after the election. In Walworth Selby keeps the seat with the court house incentive. Geddes and Wheeler stay in their river county. Fairfax remains, Presho and Oacoma fail to move capitals. Parkston loses its bid to shift Olivet in Hutchinson County.
Henry Bechtold a Cresbard farmer near Cresbard South Dakota was pinned by a rock weighing three tons after it rolled onto his leg while he tried to sink it for plowing. He endured hunger thirst and exhaustion before he cut free with a saw and was found by children. Medical observers say his leg is badly lacerated but recovery is expected.
Pierre South Dakota capitol commission reports about 200000 more is required to finish the new capitol. The funds cover changing specs to use marble for interior imitation marble and marble balustrades, plus parking grounds costs. The legislature will be asked to appropriate the sum at the next session.

In Deadwood South Dakota on November 10 six sleeping inmates perished in a resort blaze while a dozen others were seriously injured while attempting to flee. The fire consumed the building before many residents realized it was burning.
Sioux Falls dispatch says Mrs Alice B G Henry of Philadelphia and Washington has been granted a divorce by Judge Jones, citing desertion. The case proceeded quietly with little public interest and the decree restores her to single status.
Spencer South Dakota on November 10 reports the town receiving a new fire engine and a large reserve water reservoir being built to provide efficient fire protection after several costly fires in recent years.
John King of Tabor South Dakota used a newspaper ad to locate his brother who had not seen him since age seven. Separate from Elkton South Dakota, he was raised by a priest in Lesterville and later moved to Tabor where he now resides. The Camden New Jersey brother learned of him through the ad and reached out leading to communication after years apart.
George Hague a Tulare area farmer suffered his left hand first finger crushed when caught between a wagon wheel and box. Dr Crain of Redfield amputated the finger.
Huron Michigan November 10 Judge Whiting granted an application for the appointment of a receiver in the suit of W A Merrifield against the American Mexico Mining and Development company The judge has not yet named a receiver but will do so within a few days due to ongoing litigation and the companys controversial business methods
Alexandria South Dakota November 10. The jewelry store of H. C. Stroup in this city was burglarized Friday night. Thieves took 50 watches and a large amount of valuable rings, with total value estimated at $2000.
Oil magnate H. Clay Pierce arrived in Austin and surrendered on perjury charges linked to the Waites Pierce Oil case. Bond set at 20090 with sureties totaling 3.5 million. Trial scheduled for January term after a December continuance.
Nat C. Goodwin the comedian and Edna Goodrich, former co star, were married yesterday at Goodwin’s mother's home in Boston. The justice of the peace officiated. Attending were Mrs. Nellie Stevens Miss Goodrich Mr. Goodwin and George O. Wheelan. The ceremony was simple with roses and ferns. The couple left for New York after a late wedding breakfast. This is Goodwin's fourth marriage and Goodrich's second.

Washington reports the forest service will begin work December 1 at six new district headquarters across 17 western states. District foresters will handle public business formerly done in Washington with Missoula Montana as the first district hub and six districts covering Montana and parts of surrounding states.
New York November 9. Government questions Standard Oil agent Louis Blaustein to define a trust in the suit to dissolve the company. The agent says he does not know what a trust is and declines to call Standard a trust, noting he views it as a harmful large independent company.
Mexico reports Chinese individuals naturalized as Mexicans to evade U S immigration laws. They cross the border as Mexicans after swearing residence in Mexico for three years, taking an allegiance oath, and learning Spanish to fool border inspectors. The government considers requiring disavowal of intent to leave Mexico.
The German conservative party issues a formal declaration criticizing Emperor William's interview in the London Telegraph. The note urges greater reserve to protect Germany from foreign policy harm and is signed by Baron von Manteuffel and ten leaders. Maximilien Harden calls for abdication, accusing the emperor’s grandfather of similar missteps.
Sioux Falls reports the death of 38 year old farmer John Moran who hanged himself from a windmill vane 35 feet high at his brother’s home in the county’s northwest. He secured a second noose to keep his hands bound, and was described as morose recently though without known social or financial troubles. Moran owned a valuable Lake county farm across the county line.
Residents of Carthage South Dakota helped locate the relatives of John Hanson an Illinois man killed by a threshing boiler explosion near Carthage. His daughter Daisy Hanson aged 21 is in Wewanee Illinois and a son lives near Galesburg Illinois. The father had last written to his children two years before his South Dakota death.
Valley Springs South Dakota on November 9 Fred Wollenberg a local farmer found that a usually gentle Newfoundland attacked him when he tried to scold the animal for balking at driving cattle. The dog fastened its jaws on his hand and he needed a stick to pry them apart.

In Sioux Falls the J. C. Cantonwine bankruptcy hearing opened with creditors showing $60,000 in liabilities. Cantonwine claimed a false Dun’s report overstated his worth at $154,000 in 1907 and said he is penniless, while his wife is worth $58,000. He suspects a man named Smith in the robbery and paid $90 to a sheriff to search for him in Canada. He admitted no books but witnesses for creditors will present records. The hearing continues as he seeks voluntary bankruptcy.
John Ryan known as Cheyenne Johnny dies at 78 in Hot Springs South Dakota after a life as a pioneering freighter before the railroad era. He survived by a widow and three children and his reminiscences of early plains adventures with Indians and road agents would fill a book.
Florence North Dakota November 7 Gunder Tangen jailed at Watertown for shooting Will Bond during election night. Tangen intoxicated accused Bond of stealing valuables, bought a gun, fired at Bond after confrontation at his home and livery barn, wounding him in the hip. The injury is described as serious and possibly fatal.
Urbana Illinois November 7 President Edmund James of the University of Illinois issued an address to students condemning hazing and stating any student found guilty will be dismissed. He called hazing a violation of manners and liberty and said it breeds public disorder and demoralization.
Thomas Shah a 60 year old recluse from Mascoutah Illinois committed suicide by drinking carbolic acid after stopping his room clock at 6 55 and writing a will and letter naming pallbearers and arranging his affairs He had paid $45 to an undertaker and bought a casket on October 23 He left a one dollar bill for his niece Ida Mertz and said loneliness and unemployment drove him to end his life.
PaPorte Indiana, November 7. John Wilson an otorman was killed and Mrs Edgar Austin seriously injured when a South Bend traction car was knocked from the track by a Lake Erie and Western passenger train at a crossing near the city. A dozen passengers suffered cuts and bruises in the wreck.
