George Hirt richer of Wisconsin arrived in Murdo to investigate the death of his son George who died after being jailed in a seemingly intoxicated state. A physician diagnosed hemorrhage of the lungs, but bruises and facial bone fractures found at Wisconsin burial raised foul play suspicions.
The rector of Grace Episcopal church in Huron South Dakota Mr Edson resigns effective Nov. 15 after three years of service. He will assume duties at St John’s Episcopal church in Elkhorn Wisconsin described as one of the state’s largest and richest churches.
J Ib W Zeitlow, a Dakota telephone magnate, killed a duck and found a pea sized gold nugget in its crop while preparing ducks for the table. The incident occurred near Aberdeen on November 6. The discovery highlights Zeitlow’s unusual hunting find and property interests in the region.
Sioux Falls reports Charles Holland among latest penitentiary inmates after pleading guilty to bigamy. He was captured recently at Deer River Minnesota.
Alexandria Illinois November 6 The jury has just been drawn for a term of State circuit court to convene in this city on November 17. The term is expected to last only a few days as Hanson county residents are unusually law abiding.
Hon. A. B. Melville of Chicago, once a leading Beadle County attorney in the 1880s, is visiting local lawyers and appearing before Judge Whit ing in circuit court, recalling his prominence as a top Northwest trial lawyer.
In New York on November 6 reports say progress is made in talks between Mexican Central railroad representatives and the Mexican government toward government control. Financial plans were prepared by Finance Minister Jimantour as negotiations resume after six months. The line runs from Mexico City to El Paso with branches and a projected Pacific coast extension. H. Clay Pierce of St. Louis is the controlling owner.
St Louis grand jury returns true bills in a nonpartisan probe of alleged election frauds. Indictments charge poll book mutilation against Frederick Heidecker a Republican city central committeeman Ninth ward and J H Hibbard Republican clerk Fourth precinct Fourth ward plus Frank Flughes Democratic clerk and Dr H G Crosby with false affidavit and neglect of duty.
Sioux Falls Nov 8 The sportsmen of South Dakota will meet in Sioux Falls on Nov 14 to frame a new state game law. Gov elect Coe J Crawford Gov S H Wirod ex Gov Chas N Herreid and other leaders plan to study Minnesota Montana and Wisconsin laws to draft a bill for the legislature opening in January and February.
The annual Homestake Mining Co. report shows total receipts of 5,444,988.44 for the year ending June 1, 1906, with bullion sales at 5,100,445.49 and labor costs at 1,943,770. Dividends totaled 1,310,400, while other large outlays include oil 32,448.78 and powder 183,663.06.
In Webster South Dakota on November 6 relatives fear Albert Hanson who withdrew 800 dollars in Pierpont and vanished after a planned horse purchase may have been murdered. Reports say Hanson was seen in the streets before vanishing. others worry Joseph O’Leary, formerly of Sanborn County, may have fallen victim to foul play after four weeks without word.
Bonesteel South Dakota November report says Charles J. Cornell a Gregory area homesteader died from exposure after the last Thurso storm. He left for his children's school and was not seen again until his body was found frozen beside stationary horses. Reins entangled in wagon wheels and his hands crossed on his chest suggest he suffered pain before death and a horse may have kicked him while he attempted to fix a broken whiffletree.
Van derVoort, cashier of the Lakeside State Bank in Lake Andes South Dakota, shot himself Sunday evening around 10 20. He was about 52 years old and an early county settler. No motive was found and bank records remained in order after the tragedy.
A Sheridan dispatch reports a plan change for Ute removal. Utes will be brought to Arvada and transported by rail to Fort Meade rather than marching overland. Treachery fears drive the shift. Some Utes resist removal from the Powder River valley.
Residents of Yakota, a new town on the Minneapolis and St. Louis extension from Watertown to Aberdeen, fear the Sioux meaning of Yakota is to strangle. Frank W. Lyon notes the Sioux origin and urges a name change, hoping railroad and post office officials approve to avoid a hoodoo association.
Detectives have left the Collings murder case and authorities admit losing hope of solving the mystery. Harry J. Collins, husband of the murdered woman, has gone to Lyman county where he claimed a homestead.
Webster South Dakota November 7. One hundred dollars worth of glass was broken in the Congregational church Friday night, likely by saloon sympathizers furious at the pastor Rev Mr Martin for his temperance fights. The temperance league is gathering evidence and has confronted local joints with quitting or facing prosecution. Martin leads the drive and it is believed someone sought retaliation.
A Rock Island passenger train from Chicago derailed near Ellsworth Minnesota after striking a broken rail. Sadie Kramier of Sioux Falls and eight others were seriously injured as two coaches were demolished. Injured include Charles Bowers of Rock Rapids Iowa and Charles Shade of Rock Rapids banker, with several others reported in serious condition.
A large live ry barn and a private barn were destroyed by fire in Doland South Dakota on November 5. Seven horses perished and losses reach about 3500 dollars with 1000 dollars insured on the livery barn and 300 on the private barn. The north end of the town was saved with effort. Cause unknown.
The Black Hills deer season began yesterday with many sportsmen afield across the Hills. It runs through November 30 and limits each hunter to two deer. Licenses cost 2.50 for South Dakota residents and 25 for out-of-state hunters.
On Saturday afternoon linemen Charles Pollock and R F Homerberg of Cascade Milling were killed when they touched a live electric line on the city outskirts. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown.
Bristol, D. Nov. 5. Authorities have no clue to the identities of two men found murdered near Bristol. Bodies exhumed after a letter from St. Joseph, Missouri described a red hair man with a gold eye tooth, but the victims have brown hair and neither carries a gold tooth. A scar on one man’s right leg offers little help.
In Codington county South Dakota an abundant mud and peat mix could fuel briquetts with a blue flame for 90 minutes. C H Barrett has tested briquetts from peat, manufacturing costs estimate 1.25 dollars per ton, much cheaper than soft coal. A plant startup may require about 50000 dollars.
The attorney general states that building a stock dam does not violate the irrigation code. A permit is not required when the dam is intended for irrigation purposes, clarifying the legal frame for such constructions.
A Burlington line passenger train failed to brake and crashed into a side track of bunk cars near Keystone South Dakota on November 2. The switch had been set wrong and four bunk cars were shattered. Italian laborers sleeping in the bunks were thrown into snow and brush but none were injured. passengers were only shaken.

White Lake South Dakota November 2 Wenzel Hueb becomes the first man east of the Missouri to have his saloon license revoked under the state liquor license law He was arrested for keeping his saloon open on Sunday and found guilty by a state circuit court jury This bans him from re engaging in the saloon business anywhere in the state.
In Wik Point South Dakota on November 5 the October vital statistics show thirteen births and six deaths in Union County, indicating a net population increase. The report also notes few marriage licenses issued during the month.
Sisseton South Dakota November 7 The Sisseton News and the Roberts County Banner consolidate into The Banner News to be published by Banner News Publishing Company. Mosier editor of the News and L Imerson editor and publisher of the Banner share equal responsibility for the new paper which will have the largest circulation in Roberts County.
New York Nov 5 A burglary attempt at Lenox Court apartments 100 to 102 West 141st Street was thwarted by Mrs Marie Josephson who wrestled with the intruder while her husband grappled him. She summoned police. the man carried skeleton keys and cuff links belonging to her husband.
The Farmers State Bank of Brentford began business today with a $10,000 capital. Principal stockholders are leading local farmers. Officers are President R. C. Styles and Cashier N. S. Heynes. Brentford is among new towns on the Minneapolis and St. Louis extension.
Belle Fourche South Dakota Nov 7 a new land and stock company with a 20000 paid up capital has taken over the Behymer ranches comprising about 6000 acres along Hay creek fourteen miles from the city The president is E J Le Seur of the city the treasurer is J E Hartwell of Crawford Nebraska secretary Chambers Kellar of Lead and ranch foreman S E Behymer
The tow board awarded the contract for drilling an artesian well to supply Presho South Dakota with domestic and fire protection water.
Mrs. A H Still, wife of Parker house proprietor, collapsed and died before noon while helping prepare dinner. The couple were early settlers in Parker South Dakota where the hotel named Parker house has been in operation since the town's early days.
Madison South Dakota November 2 Work on the artesian well sunk by the county and city was permanently stopped after the drill struck granite. The measured depth is 1,816 feet at $3.59 per foot totaling $4,606. Water stands near the surface and a pump over the casing will be used.
Clinton Riatt known as Slim, a 6 foot 10 inch hack driver, arrived from England claiming a $40,000 inheritance. He says he carried the bills sewn in his clothing lining, asserting he is the tallest man in the state.
In Keystone South Dakota on November 2 a prospector named James Scott known locally as Jim Scott died by suicide. He had lived in the Hills for twenty five years and reportedly took a large dose of morphine in a despondent act, marking the second such death in six months among local old timers.
In Pierre South Dakota on November 3 the city center of cattle country faces a milk and butter famine. Over half the families rely on condensed milk from drug stores while butter sells from 40 to 80 cents per pound amid rising prices.
The Swedes and Norwegians of Lead S D moved March 3 reached a settlement in their dispute over the Lutheran church building. The Norwegians bought the Swedes’ interests in the building and grounds, ending years of contention.
James Quinn, a Sioux Falls fire department member, was arrested on a serious charge by Minnie Olson, an 18-year-old. After a preliminary examination he was bound over to the circuit court with bonds set at $800, and remains in the county jail.
In Sioux Falls, Charles H. Mewing of Aberdeen files a voluntary bankruptcy with liabilities of 13,373 and assets of 9,514. George Snyder, Aberdeen farmer, lists liabilities 1,579 and assets 2,500. J P Blanchard of Blanchard & Nelson Colton files as both individual and as firm member, liabilities 1,318 with no assets, and 2,028 liabilities with 715 assets.
Miss Mary L. Gates and C L Muggah of Ellsworth Minnesota wed at the bride’s parents home in Sioux Falls South Dakota. The bride has been one of the city’s most popular young women.
Frank A. Vanderlip vice president of National City Bank spoke at the West Side Y M C A on Wall Street investing. He predicted the future need for a great commercial university to properly teach corporate affairs as corporations become a dominant factor in commerce.
A Seattle movement launches plans to erect a monument to William H. Seward, secretary of state under Lincoln and Johnson, honoring his role in the Alaska purchase. The monument would be funded by public subscription and unveiled in 1909 alongside the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition opening.

Jule Keen, longtime treasurer for the Buffalo Bill wild west show, died yesterday in New York. His wife Mrs Keen had died the previous Monday.
Andrew McIntosh a 40 year old Baltimore and Ohio engineer in Akron Ohio escaped death when a concealed infernal device in a tool box exploded powder and dynamite. The pistol bullet struck his left cheek and though the dynamite scattered the device did not explode. His injuries were not serious.
The Luther League of America, meeting in Canton, chose Chicago as the 1908 host city. William C. Stoever of Philadelphia was elected president.
