Obituary of Philetus Shepherd chronicling life travels and faith
Philetus Shepherd born 1838 in Otsego County New York lived on farms across Minnesota Dakota and South Dakota. He married Margaret Clague in 1867 and had ten children, four of whom survived to adulthood. He served in the Civil War and spent life as a Methodist preacher and farm worker. He suffered strokes late in life and died October 21 after a final paralyzing attack in California then returned to South Dakota. He left a legacy of Christian faith with several children becoming preachers or missionaries.
