Comparing Conditions in Britain and the United States for Free Trade Critics
Special correspondence from Washington argues that Great Britain under free trade shows higher taxes and debts, lower wages, fewer savings, and worse trade balances than the United States under protection. It cites per capita figures on taxation, savings, money in circulation, debt, interest, paupers, wages, and trade balances to claim American policy has produced stronger economic health and lower per capita burdens. The piece ends urging Republicans to vote and mobilize neighbors to support the current system.
