Cardinal Di Rende Seen as Likely Heir to Papal Tiara

The New York Advertiser notes Leo XIII joked that Cardinal Di Rende archbishop of Benevento would be the next pope, saying he is the youngest among cardinals and a favorite of the pope. Di Rende, fluent in English, once served in London and Ware, later as nuncio in Paris, member of the Odescalchi family. Also mentions a light absurd tale of a wedding among Afro Americans and a brief geographic note about Baku wells district.
