A petition with about 15 000 names arrived to send the electric headlight law back to a second vote. The measure requires railroads to equip engines with electric headlights and was defeated in the prior referendum after a vote no campaign. Opponents may also push to refer the immigration department law to a vote.
Los Angeles insurgents urge continued war until Mexico's natural resources are owned by the people. Hagon and Gen Figuaro lead the fight near Mexico City with 0,000 men as Diaz may resign by June 1 to seal a peace pact. Rebels capture Cuernavaca. Torrsen reports 200 Chinese killed by dynamite.
Paris reports Premier Antoine Whest Monis injured when a monoplane failed and killed Minister of War Berteaux at Issy last night. Pierre Vedrine won the first leg of the Paris to Madrid air race, flying 281 miles at 74 mph from Issy to Angoul Ena. Chicago reports C W Thorson killed and five injured when an automobile truck collided at fifty mph. New York mentions John McAleenan 36, son of a pawn broker, shot himself in his sleep. Grays Lake Illinois records two men killed and several injured in a Soo Line freight train collision.
James Carr a Fon du Lac Wisconsin fireman was scalded to death and Fred Mullen a Fon du Lac brakeman was crushed to death in the same incident.
Governor Gilchrist ordered a full investigation into the Sunday lynching of six Negroes at Lake City. He stated that if mob members are identified they will face punishment to the full extent of the law.
Mrs Florence Hering former wife of Frank E Hering of South Bend Ind sues her ex husband and his new wife for 50000 damages over intimidation and technical assault. Hering once led the Order of Eagles.
Washington reports circulate about further resignations in President Taft's cabinet. Speculation centers on Fisher, new interior secretary, joining Taft as a staunch progressive to appease reformers and blunt La Follette’s presidential bid. Also noted is Stimson’s oath as secretary of war replacing Dickinson.
Ewald Hohlfeldt, a piano tuner, was struck from behind by a car driven by real estate dealer Mr Harmon near the driving park grounds. He suffered a broken left leg in two places and bruises, and was taken to Geo. A. Johnston’s residence for care. Eyewitnesses dispute speed. Harmon helped and halted the vehicle.
By June 1 the Castle Creek Hydraulic Placer Mining Company's large dredge near Mystic should start operating. the power plant is finished and the $100,000 dredge is first of its kind in the Black Hills. A second dredge costing less will follow on Rapid Creek below Pactola, backed by Pennsylvanian and Canadian capital. The Continental Copper Company resumes work near Sheridan in Pennington.
Washington officials announce a civil government action against International Harvester for unreasonable restraints on trade. Wickersham aims to dissolve the company similar to Standard Oil, with suit likely in Chicago federal court after extensive independent investigations.
Pierre South Dakota report notes the Northwestern Investment Company of Spokane Washington, an outside building and loan concern, withdrawing from the state economy as part of a broader exodus of foreign firms.

In Valparaiso Indiana the Jilt Club formed by Valparaiso University women initiates a freeze out campaign against town girls who courted college sweethearts. The campaign pits town and college factions in a lively social dispute as dorm sisters and campus boys become entangled in rivalries and jilted suitors.
Sioux Falls hosts a slate of June and July gatherings including the Norwegian pioneer residents annual meeting with 1000 plates for banquet. The South Dakota Bankers association convention and the state federation of commercial clubs meet June 3 to 8 and 3 to 5 respectively. Postmasters hold their annual convention June 20 and 21 with expected attendance near 100.
Andrew Sime of Prairie DuChien Wisconsin rode with relatives near Draper when a vicious bull charged the horse. They toppled into a barb wire fence and Sime became entangled in the wire loop around his neck. He suffered deep jaw cuts and multiple wounds from the barbs but survived, the outcome described as a near miracle.
In Los Angeles Bert H Connors and John M Parks face charges over an alleged attempt to dynamite the Hall of Records last September. Connors purportedly implicated others including a group from San Francisco. An indictment was expected as detectives say Connors confessed detailing the plot amid a workers strike. A Mc Namara link to the Times building case was not admitted. In Kansas City a dynamite blast wrecked W E Griffin’s home the Baker Washington school principal, with unknown perpetrators linked to a two year campaign against Montgall avenue residents.
Rev. D. C. Painter of Yancey Mill Virginia introduces a resolution at the Southern Presbyterian Assembly in Louisville accusing Catholics of pernicious political activity. He faults public leaders and the press for silence as he attacks Taft for naming a White Chief Justice educated in a Jesuit school. The measure goes to a committee.
Reports from the north and west describe a broad rain event overnight. Aberdeen to Wolsey saw light to heavy showers with over an inch in some areas, while Mitchell and Wesley to Letcher reported deep water and heavy rainfall along railroad ditches. Western areas from Murdo to Harold experienced one of the season’s best rains.
