Meant to shield settlers from losing homesteads in forest reserves measure 10 proposes that if a homesteader is removed from reserved land, he receives an equally valued tract. The bill, urged by a settlers association, would let the secretary of agriculture set aside forest lands for homestead entries with a $2.50 per acre payment and protections for existing titles in Pennington and Lawrence counties. It also preserves quartz mining laws and water rights within withdrawn lands.

Rapid City South Dakota March 27 contractors with grading outfits have arrived from Presho and will begin grading at once twenty five miles east of the city at the Bollman ranch. Several other outfits are now employed this side of the end of the track and as soon as their present work is completed they will be brought into Rapid Valley to push grading to completion as rapidly as possible.
Professor Levengood reports remarkable agricultural output from the Indian school in Pierre South Dakota. Indian boys tilled three acres to harvest 720 bushels of potatoes and 250 bushels of corn among many crops, totaling thousands of bushels and hundreds of pounds across multiple plots supervised by school authorities.
Senator Gamble won favorable committee reports on bills restoring unpaid annuities to the Sisseton Wahpeton and Santee Sioux, totaling over 2 million dollars. The first session was held last evening with lectures from noted leaders. A college dining room banquet is planned tonight and Sunday closes with a farewell service. Speakers include Rev T J Brown Vermilion J Pratt Iowa State College R A Hadley Iowa state secretary and M T Kennedy secretary for the two Dakotas.
In Deadwood South Dakota on March 24 authorities destroyed a full roulette setup seized after the Palm saloon raid on October 26. The table wheel stand and chips, valued at about 320, were dismantled and burned in a jail yard, marking a probable first use of the law in the Black Hills and state.
