Spearfish South Dakota March 17 The Black Hills Co-Operative association begins active business with T N Pettigrew elected manager. The group has bought the Wolzmuth warehouse and lists farm and garden products for market including thousands of bushels of wheat carloads of oats timothy native hay and potatoes. I L Cook is president of the association which aims to secure best prices for farmers and fruit growers in Deadwood Lead and surrounding areas. Small fruits are abundant and sell in regional markets with fruit reaching Nebraska and Colorado. Potatoes crop expected to exceed prior years.
Armour S D March 15 H W Smith candidate for national committeeman at the state convention at Sioux Falls has lost his own precinct a county precinct near Armour and will go into the Douglas county convention here tomorrow without a vote. A solid delegation from Douglas county will to the convention instructed for I J Johnson also of this county.
Businessmen of Lead and Deadwood organize the Lead Deadwood Gas and Fuel company prepared to erect a large gas plant at Pluma and pipe gas to Lead and Deadwood. It plans to invest about $100,000 in the enterprise with franchises held in Lead and Deadwood and expenditures for plant setup and mains.
Tioward March 17 the president has signed the private pension bill by Senator Kittredge granting D. M. Kanouse a pension of 50 dollars per month in this city. The pension will commence from February 26.
Sioux Falls reports a likely arsonist in Brandon near the Omaha line. A grain elevator owned by American Elevator Co was set ablaze but extinguished before major damage. Earlier fires hit W. J. Jones S. J. Erickson and Mr. Crafts stores. investigators link them to the same unidentified person.
