Pierre February 24 The Senate passed the dispensary bill after a close vote and lengthy debate. The general appropriation bill totals about $875000 while the Senate bill stands near $874110. Amendments and constitutional questions stoked filibuster fears as the session nears closing. Observers speculate on the warden appointment and party balance on the board of charities and corrections.
Pierre Feb 25 In a populist sourced report Governor Lee may call a special session if the legislature does not enact the dispensary and referendum laws from the last election. Bills passed the house including oil inspection and tax levy measures while vetoes targeted party ballot rules and voter assistance proposals. Senate appropriations for soldiers home heating and public building insurance were approved as the dispensary bill faced committee scrutiny.
The South Dakota senate approved the dispensary bill 38 to 6 after an amendment to protect existing license laws until the act takes effect. Other measures moved include Aberdeen industrial school funding, property tax assessment legislation, and salary changes for judges, with some defeated. The house later passed related bills and the senate sent a referendum bill to the governor. A photograph of South Dakota regiment officers in Manila was published.

Fred Tobin of Mitchell lies in a hospital with neck and lung injuries. he enlisted in Co B of the South Dakota regiment after leaving local work. Frank McLain in Co G is wounded in the hip. Oscar L. Felker Co C and William B. Smith Co M were killed. Martin Eide Co M slightly wounded. Charles Hultberg Musician severely wounded. The South Dakota troops fight bravely according to dispatches.
The second quarterly conference led by Rev. C E Hager reported the Methodist church free of debt after Pastor Stevens raised about $1 000 to pay off a fifteen year old obligation. Trustees plan additions to seat growing crowds, while social events followed D o H lodge activities with prizes awarded for a donkey tail game and coin guessing.
